There’s more to it than that JD.
The Libdem motion is a short bill calling for an election and as such needs only a simple majority. In theory it should have more chance of passing than Johnson’s plan. A cynic might query whether that fact in itself might put Johnson off (!)
It also as I understood it was to include a proviso that the election be cancelled if the EU didn’t go for Jan 31 or later.
Then there’s the issue that it’s “someone else’s idea and someone else’s date”
And Dec 9 is also still in university term time ...
The "WAB" is the Withdrawal Agreement Bill. It's what was going to be debated in Parliament if the Government had allowed more time to do so.
Regarding the 9.12.19 date for the election, "One source suggested that the ever-so-slightly earlier date could particularly help the Liberal Democrats, because more students would still be in their university towns on the 9th than on 12 December."
//more students would still be in their university towns on the 9th than on 12 December."//
Which,of course, would make it easier for them to vote twice.
If they wanted to vote twice, could they not use a postal vote even if they weren't actually at the University still on election day?
Corby, I thin postal votes may only be allowed at their home addresses.
You can vote twice in a council election but only once in a GE.
"Seems odd wanting the 9th instead of the 12th have got their calendars in a mess or do they know something we dont? "

They (Lib-Dems, Labour, etc.) want the election on the 9th so that they can rely on the student vote before they break up for Christmas. No chance of double-voting after the 12th.
