Are they desperate for votes, we can't vote in EU elections only the local ones and children fresh out of school will listen to their parents.

Indeed not, danny but they are easily led and fooled. In 2017 Mr Corbyn promised he would write off everybody's student loans and he polled a shedload of votes as a result. The Remain campaign managed to persuade youngsters that if we left the EU that would no longer be allowed to travel to Europe. I know because I spoke to some of them. It doesn't take much nonsense and drivel to garner a youngster's vote even at 18. At 16 it's candy from a baby.

youngmafbog //This is usually trotted out by the left safe in the knowledge the kids are brainwashed by left wing teachers. I guess a similar thought pattern is in the minds of the SNP?//
Or it could be simply because 16 is the voting age for the Scottish Parliament and for Scottish local government elections.

"We surely should not be preventing a section of the population from voting because we don’t like the way we think they might vote?"
No - we should not be preventing a section of the population from voting because of the way they vote, they should not be allowed to vote because they are children.
People are considered as adults in the UK when they are 18, and that is the age they become eligible to vote - I see no meaningful reason to change this.
Society deems that a 16 year old is not mature enough to buy fags, buy a pint of beer in the pub, leave education (in most circumstances - before somebody points out the few situations in which they can), get married without their parents permission, other than for necessities cannot enter into commercial contracts, so I fail to see why they can be considered mature enough to vote.
And if 16 year olds are allowed to vote, should 14 year olds be allowed? Or 12 years olds? If not, why not?
This is simply a cynical move, as a rule usually trotted out by Labour, because they know 16 year olds tend to be more left-leaning - I certainly was when I was in the 6th Form.

Far too gullible at 16 years old and usually left wing and rebellious or not interested. Not enough life experience. No experience of the working world. Of course there are exceptions. Look back at yourselves at age 16. Can you honestly say you should have had the right to vote. I couldn't vote until I was 21. It was just as well!
You are of course allowed to marry at 16 and join the armed forces.
Sorry to bring a hackneyed point into it, but the idea that 16 year olds are children and therefore shouldnt vote is a self fulfilling one. By what law of nature should people be deemed children for the purposes of voting but not other “adult” things?
