Are they desperate for votes, we can't vote in EU elections only the local ones and children fresh out of school will listen to their parents.

There are subjects they will listen to and others they just rebel against. If school hasn't already swayed them, politics may be something they feel parental guidance is useful for.

My grandson voted in the last Scottish referendum at 17 years of age. So far as I know he did not vote the same way as his parents. He is now studying politics at university.
Plenty of arguments for and against, but you can marry at 16 so what's wrong with having the vote?

they have no clue at that age, only if they think there getting something for free, something like i head they would lower the drinking age to 16, or free playstations and pizzas, thye have not lived long enough to form an opinion.

As a student - a friend of our family who was a member of the Ulster Unionist Party (later president) sorted me out with a postal vote: and then I went and voted SDLP :-)
