Your mirth is misplaced, mamyalynne. It isn’t about identifying individual zappers of individual posts - that would be impossible so the notion, although often repeated is, in itself, wholly illogical. On principle moderators should be known because anything less is disrespectful to the whole membership. Secrecy engenders suspicion, mistrust and an ‘us and them’ mentality - and that is never conducive to harmony.

Corby, you misunderstand. Unwarranted secrecy is disrespectful. Without that this same old complaint wouldn’t constantly arise. It creates suspicion and that creates unnecessary waves - and that’s a pity.

How many complaints would be addressed to those known to be Mods, especially if a Mod takes part in a thread where posts have been deleted?

I don’t see complaints being addressed to the half a dozen or so known mods now so there’s no reason to believe that would change. Mods don’t know any more than anyone else anyway so complaining to them would be pointless. I simply think this culture of secrecy engenders suspicion and mistrust - and that’s damaging.

go to just about any other online forum/board and mods are openly identified ..when they post you can see who mods are.
this site lives in the dark ages...

There's no suggestion that AB function would be improved, simply that the concept of 'us and them' and the suspicion and mistrust that produces would be diminished, hence making for a more pleasant atmosphere.

If folk think the Mods are not doing their jobs propery, they should be letting the ED know their concerns.

I, for one, have no concerns and have no burning desire to know the names of the Mods.

G'afternoon dannyk13...I admire you for Not hiding the fact that you are a Mod. Not an enviable position in the light of a recent statement from AB Spare Ed..."Our moderators have been selected for their abilities to moderate whilst remaining impartial. They act in accordance with The AnswerBank's Site Rules."

I now see it as being the case that, should a Mod disagree with the opinion of an ABer, the Mod is Not remaining impartial.
