People are criticizing the authorities for not keeping tabs on him. There are 40,000 of these creatures on Jihad watch and it takes 20+ officers to watch one of them. It's unsustainable and they only have to get lucky once.

The idea that in order to protect society (the first duty of any government) we have to have more & more police surveillance of potential Jihadis is misguided 'top-down' thinking.

We have to attack the root causes. These attacks have a religious motivation & the perpetrators are encouraged to do so by hate-preachers.
My suggestion is to find out which mosque this guy attended & close it down for 6 months, if any more actions take place which can be connected in any way to that mosque - then bulldoze it!

Like you, I want alternative, tougher action. (I'd go along with shutting mosques and deporting hate preachers)
It's just some people will try to blame the authorities for this and other attacks instead of the perpetrator(s).

But they were keeping tabs on him. That's why armed officers were on the scene immediately he kicked off. Fortunately they managed to dispatch him before he could do too much damage.

The officer(s) who did the deed will be suspended now whilst an "enquiry" is undertaken. I can save them the trouble. The officers were provided with weapons and told to keep an eye on a particularly dangerous individual. Whilst they were doing so he stole a knife and began stabbing people. Before he could do any more damage he was summarily dispatched in much the same way as a rabid dog would have been if it had been seen in Streatham High Road biting people.

They look in the mirror and say "I am a warrior for Allah …" because we all like to think the best of ourselves, and saying that is better than the unvarnished, but far less palatable truth which is -

"I am mentally deranged, and I like killing and maiming innocent people, and I should be locked away for the rest of my life where I cannot harm anyone."

A more practical and less divisive response may be simply to ensure the removal of radicalising Imams - they must be identifiable, and should be stopped from spreading their poison.

That is an oft-expressed point of view, but it does swerve the debate into another complex area, so I will simply agree to disagree with you on that one.

And I’ve said before that you’re mistaken. The definition of a psychopath is “a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behaviour.”

These people are not suffering from a mental disorder and it’s a mistake to endow any of them with a mind-set resembling in any way, shape or form, that of the western world. Islam means ‘Submission’ and it is unique for many reasons, not least because it is not simply a religion but a whole way of life. Moreover, its sole purpose is to conquer and control until such time that Islam rules the whole world. Its adherents are required to further that cause in any way available to them, whether that be by entering the political system of non-Islamic nations, feigning friendship by inviting the infidel to the mosque for tea and biscuits, or by killing in the name of Allah, the latter option carrying the ultimate accolade of martyrdom and the promise of a lucrative reward in heaven. Until the west relinquishes its liberal attitude towards Islam and instead takes the trouble to learn and to understand what it is actually facing, it will never defeat it.
