40p a day is astonishingly good value.

I'd be more than happy to pay that even if the only things I ever watched was Peaky Blinders and Line of Duty.

Oh Dear Mr or Mrs desk diary is having a bad day , poor thing. Hope you start to feel better later.
I am commenting about the Cons saying they would" look into abolishing the TV Licence"

You said, in your original post:

//Dec 2019, Part of the Conservative Party, Election Manifesto , was" Free TV licence for over 75's" and" thinking about abolishing it for good,"//

So what is it you're commenting about? Is it the manifesto commitment (in which case, as you've already been asked, please point us to the passage in that document which said just that)? Or is it about some Tory bloke you heard in the pub or on the telly saying that?
I'm not supporting Gully here (as my now deleted posts would've confirmed), but aren't a lot of the folk saying the licence fee is good value the same who bash the "beep beep see" for their supposed left wing bias at every possible opportunity?
yes mozz but that's the point isn't it? even us anti BBC types support the license fee.
Mozz, //aren't a lot of the folk saying the licence fee is good value the same who bash the "beep beep see" for their supposed left wing bias at every possible opportunity? //

I bash the BBC - not at every opportunity - but when I spot blatant bias. However, the point is if we're to pay a licence fee, bearing in mind what we get for that fee, we can hardly say that £3 a week is expensive.
And of course all the other parties fulfil all of their manifestoes
I agree with Deskdiary. My 40p per day gives me access to some really good drama, documentaries and excellent music programmes on BBC4. Having watched TV in several other countries, the BBC is still something to be proud of. And no ads!,
it's expensive Naomi, if you don;t have it.

16.31 ,Money is no object to some people. Emmie.
A lot of people I have seen on AB and elsewhere advocate getting rid of the TV Licence and replacing it with a subscription.

I very much doubt it would be a subscription of £3 a week.

Anything is expensive if you haven't got it of course and for pensioners in particular now is the time to check eligibility for Pension Credit .

It was clear to me when Boris Johnson made the throwaway statement on camera about considering getting rid of the licence it would come to this.
emmie, being unable to afford something doesn't mean it's expensive - it just means you, personally, don't have enough money to buy whatever it is. All I'm saying is that for what the BBC offers £3 a week is very good value. It costs far more than that to go to see one movie at the cinema.
i know as i pay it, but do begrudge it all the same, I am not old enough to be eligible for a freebie...
i was more or less referring to the poverty stricken, some of those who have a tv, like the elderly but haven;t had to fork out 157.odd before.
Why do you begrudge it, emmie? Living alone, the television must be welcome company. Would you rather it was paid for with advertising?
// As usual Gulliver has only posted what suits him.//
a deep deep shock to me
as we know that all other ABers post hem hem balanced views with points pro and con
I am shocked still
I don't begrudge a penny of it, a bargain in fact.
sometimes i do begrudge it. I know its 40p a day, and that isn't a lot and yes i do find it a comfort sometimes.
// being unable to afford something doesn't mean it's expensive - it just means you, personally, don't have enough money to buy whatever it is//
absolutely right I can state without fear of being accused of - - o god never mind

In can you forgive her? Trollope - the dissolute Burgo FitsGerald who has not managed to net Lady Glencora, meets a beggar girl who says - sir I have not a coin in the world
and Burgo whispers: in that case you have £20 000 more than me

and the girl says - wot he say den? foo, is he gonna gib me anyfing or what? wot kinda stupid answer is dat den ( sort of mainstream AB really)
Lady Glencora marries the son of the Duke of Omnium and this is a much better match than Burgo - who really is a bit of a rake

and Winston Churchill commented around the battle of atbara and omdurman I think
even 2/6 is a lot of money if you dont have it

//£3 a week is cheap. 'Only Connect' and 'University Challenge' alone are worth more than that.//
There speaks the lady who obviously has never had to live off Universal Credit or any other benefit.
