I would of sooner my analogy was answered by the person to whom it was addressed simply because he is the one expressing sympathy for the actions of the surfer and appears unable to recognise the implications.

I am also interested to read what TheDevil makes of your question retrocop.
I am not sure that TheDevil does not see the implications of the surfer's actions, I regard his stance as playing devil's advocate, something he is prone to do in debates - but I would not wish to second-guess his position on this.

Surfers surf good waves. In any conditions at any beach, people can get caught in a swell and get sucked out to sea.
Only at hunstanton do you need to let you little 3 year old play in what seems like a innocent pool of water, next moment your little 3 year old is bobbing around in the middle of the wave break due to under currents.
Surfers like to surf big waves. They deliberately surf in poor weather, because it makes great surf.
It wasn't deliberate that he got caught in a swell and lost his surfboard, and if he didn't then it all would have been fine, he would have just had his surf and gone home.
Just happens he lost his board was caught in a swell. Something that could actually happen on any day.
Everyone likes to have an opinion be it negative or heinous yet they have no clue about this situation or even surfers in general.
I wonder how ABers would feel about the parents who allowed their kids to paddle in pools that pulled them out into the ocean... I wonder.
