//She's not wrong about climate change,...// She's wrong insofar as her criticism should be directed towards those who are exacerbating the problem to the greatest degree. That is China (30% of global emissions) the USA (14%) and India (7%). That's half of all global emissions. The UK is responsible for just over 1%. It could reduce its share to nothing...

Nickor - How many teenagers, excluding those with problems, get a platform that gives them access to the world media and heads of state in the way that Ms Thunburg has had, without access being arranged by powerful and rich people?
Since she is neither, and actually has nothing of originality to say, it follows that her profile has been carefully managed by cynical manipulators, starting with her poor excuses for parents, and expanding from there.
It is an open secret that her parents are environmental activists, but since they are as common as rat droppings, and frankly about as effective, it follows that a 'novelty' may hit the spot where they have failed - and so it has turned out.

douglas - // While not neccessarily disagreeing with all of that at 17:49, one should heed one's own advice about forming extreme opinions based solely on media coverage, shouldn't one? //
One should - but the evidence, as I have outlined it, is there for anyone to see.
No-one, and I mean no-one, gets that sort of media profile with out money and power being involved.
You would have to concede that an autistic teenager is unlikely to have either, likewise her parents, so there are clearly other forces at work.

douglas - // It was more the poor excuses for parents and rat droppings stuff I was referring to.
Easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment though. //
It is, but I rarely am, and certainly not in the case of Ms Thunberg's manipulators.
I have held that view about them from the moment she appeared, and I have seen no reason to adjust it in any way since.

Andy, that is quite possibly the poorest analogy I have ever read.
Then you're not an andy analogy aficionado...he's made worse. //
I probably have!
But I am not in the habit of trawling back decades in the site to find some example of something I have said and regurgitating it to make me look bad.
If you hang on, maybe one of the saddos who does do that will happen along and oblige you.

Mozz - // She's not the dumb, manipulated, mentally ill child people make her out to be. //
I have never referred to Ms Thunberg, or inferred in any way that she is dumb or mentally ll.//
And that's why I said "people" and not "Andy".
*Goes back to lurking. I've done my share of debate/arguing on AB for thos weekend*

\\What evidence have you seen, Andy? I am unsure, but I haven't seen compelling evidence that tells me she is being manipulated.//
so she arranged all the protests, meetings with world leaders, travel around the world, tv appearances and lectures......all on her own. //
To be fair, any teenager would require support in the simple logistics of the exposure that Ms Thunberg has enjoyed.
To my mind, the manipulation is clearly evident from the fact that an autistic minor who clearly has psychological issues, which are on view in her public appearances, should not be being used as a puppet mouthpiece for her parents' ideals and ambitions.
I think that is morally repugnant, and have said so many many times on this thread, and various others.

It may just come down to the interpretation of manipulation, webbo3. Of course she hasn’t managed to do that all on her own, doors have been opened for her. However, is it a case of others using her to get what they want, or is it a case of others using her to get what they both want. If someone opened a door for me because it suited them, but it suited me too, I wouldn’t consider myself manipulated.
