Many countries have had a different approach to containing it, some have worked well and others have not. It needs to be a case of we must learn from mistakes we will have made and not make the same mistakes again.
It's too early to say for certain why Germany have, so far, suffered less than we do. It may also be down to luck -- for example, if the virus is deadliest for the elderly or already-sick, but a lot of your cases are amongst younger, healthier people, then maybe the death rate would be naturally low.
