Maggie, I asked in the OP what teachers and ex teachers thought and even those with teachers in the family, and tbh, I can’t see any argument going on here?
I understand ( correct me if I'm wrong )the plan is to start with return to school of infants and primary school children

How on earth are teachers going to be able to get these groups to observe social distancing all the time ?

Good point Baz
Put the kids in dog crates 2 metres apart. Problem solved!

APC I’d love to give you BA but I’d be clobbered so hard for it, I’d feel it Haha x
Bobbi, I was referring to all the comments about your use of the word "obtrusive". Rather than just leave it, some had to offer alternatives. Why? Your question was perfectly clear.
Although Danny and Tilly offered alternatives, they were not arguing.
Question Author
Arh right , thanks Maggie, a lot could start an argument in an empty room on here ,par for the course tho:0)
Bobbie I dare you!
Question Author
Haha, you want my detractors to have some fun APC, lol
I like the word "obtrusive"

Must slip it in my next conversation.

Hi Bobbs.

Hi yourself Sparky x
My daughter is a nursery teacher and, just before the year's end, had half a lung removed due to a slow-growing carcinoma. Having received notice of an imminent return to work she has sought assurances from her employers that relevant safety precautions will be in place. The reply she got was a tad ambiguous and the only safety gear they will be issued with is gloves! Some of the children she looks after have yet to be potty-trained so the job involves changing nappies, etc. So much for social distancing. She is naturally anxious, so much so that she has now had to produce a sick note from the doc. Without the backing from unions, people like my daughter would most likely have to like it or lump it.
Well, Bobbie, I'm somewhat fed up of all the arguments on AB - worse than Bexit. P - everybody snapping at each other. They should be put in dog crates too!

I don’t doubt the umbrella that unions provide Ken

Haha, I’m all for that APC , with a padlock and chain:0))))

Schools have remained open in UK. Some have small numbers; some with lots of children with special needs or children of key workers have greater numbers.
The proposal is for small classes of maybe 15 (seems too high to me but it depends on room size and number of TAs), but as it's only year/1 and Year 6 they should be able to spread them more thinly between teachers and rooms.
I'd feel nervous about going back.
I can see why primary teachers would be happy to continue getting full pay for maybe one day a week on a rota rather than returning on a maybe 4-5 day a week basis
I have seen both sides of the unions/employers thing, both personally and with people close to me, and generally I think its the same as everything else. Where reasonable people are involved, its fine and where power crazed doctrine obsessed loons are in control it gets messy.
They're doing what they're there for, looking out for their members.
Question Author
So why didn’t USDAW etc get involved for their members then Dougie? ( just looking at both sides here )
