It wasn't the best way of expressing myself, perhaps. But quelling riots *now* doesn't achieve much in the long term if the reasons people are protesting aren't addressed. In that, at least, I'm not kidding. Sending in the army will not help. What is Trump's plan to address the anger and to defuse it?

I don't support the rioters. I don't support the looters. I don't agree that sending in the army is the right response. Meeting violence with violence rarely ends well. A lot of people just end up dead, and then it all starts again in a few years.

has been inviting Mr Trump to support the govt action in Hong Kong as it is designed to maintain law and order
