When did the British copper start emulating the French gendarmes? They looked on in the eighties when vandals burned lorry loads of lamb, now our police look on whilst a baying mob vandalises a public monument. Is this the gutless approach we can now expect from our police?

In regards to Shoota's post of 0026, I posted this on another thread: 'I think that the authorities should stop using mounted-police during these riots. Firstly, they don't really seem to accomplish much regarding controlling the mobs, and secondly, and perhaps more importantly, these magnificent animals present themselves, and their riders, as highly visible targets to the rampaging idiots.'

The two working water cannons that the Met had were disposed of a long time ago. Boris bought some more but Theresa May wouldn't let him use them so they were mothballed, not maintained, went rusty and were sold for scrap at a whopping loss...

I believe that the two working ones went to the RUC and there was some kind of agreement that if we needed them we could borrow them back. How true that is I don't know.
It would take a brave Home Sec to authorise their use, especially as so many of the protesters are genuine.
