When did the British copper start emulating the French gendarmes? They looked on in the eighties when vandals burned lorry loads of lamb, now our police look on whilst a baying mob vandalises a public monument. Is this the gutless approach we can now expect from our police?

I am totally distressed by all this. Our police should very definitely not 'give the knee' …. ALL lives matter. I am no apologist for the cop who started all this, but it has gone far too far. By saying 'Black lives matter' it opens the door to 'other lives are not quite so important'. Sorry, but wording counts and it could be (in 20 years time) the spearpoint for a black supremacy movement, given the right (or wrong) people and circumstances. (Looking at History here.) I say it again ALL LIVES MATTER. No excuse for bad behaviour. I am hugely disappointed in our police. Even more so in our politicians.

The police will have the video evidence for the main culprits responsible, and I guess will be making house calls very soon, (without the rest of the mob present) you could say this is modern day policing, ( not 1960/70s) they sacrificed the statue and probably saved many many shops /buildings being set ablaze as in the US.

The police probably knew the statue would come down sooner or later, so why run the risk of running battles like in the US, its called tactical policing, Bristol like many places are crammed with cctv, like I say it won't be long before arrests are made, without the maddening crowd.
