I agree that democratic means should always be the preferred outcome, but there's a problem with making it exclusive. The nature of democracy is that the majority gets its way, but there are clearly situations in which allowing that to happen unchallenged would be disastrous.

A monarch who came to the throne four years after this country abolished the slave trade.

Queen Victoria loved the culture and her Indian subjects. She was happy to elevate them into court society as advisers and tried to learn their language.Indian architects were hired to transform the banwueting hall into a Indian Palace with themed furnishings. She placed many busts and statues of her trusted respected friends and aides in and around the Derbah Room. Indian Rajahs and Village headmen travelled from India to honour and bestow gifts of gratitude to her as a token of their esteem.
