Royfromaus - “You too seem to have omitted why you would have run from these people. Why would you have run?” If you're talking to me (it helps if you make this clear) then my answer would be – I wouldn't have. I would have stood my ground – unless I was specially ordered to gather info only and retreat if confronted. The day I kneel before a baying mob of fascist,...

My Dad was in the RA in the war and one of the jobs that he would talk about was the task of getting specialist observers up to the front lines and back. There was no video them, no cloud storage, and verbal wireless communication would have been heard. His job....his one job was to get the intel back safely to base...and it was in human heads. So no heroics...no turn and fight...it was hide and run and hide. If it came to a fight then things had gone badly wrong. If things had gone really bad, his job would have been to keep the observers out of enemy hands...he used to say he was grateful taht it had never come to that. Same with these guys. Their job is intel, not to look good on the videos or to impress the public with their bravery. One job.
"ROY is all talk but not actually saying what he would have done, other than not running off"
Roy is not a policeman so why should he say anything about what he'd have done? It's not about what a member of the public would have done, these guys are policeman and we expect more of them whatever their role. If the defence is it was just info gathering and they weren't in a position to carry out their duties they should have dressed in civvies.

" If the defence is it was just info gathering and they weren't in a position to carry out their duties they should have dressed in civvies" prudie my understanding is that information gained in this way (undercover) cannot be used for prosecutions, in the same way that speed cameras must be clearly visible.
Surely the powers that be would have had some inkling of what may happen as a result of sending 2 uniforms out 'intel' gathering in this way. If they had to wear their uniforms, then they should have been within the safety of a vehicle. As for the running away. I'd have done exactly the same thing. And not because of a sense of duty to get the intel back to base. Just for my own good health!
