Sleekit Tories
The tory government has revealed, in glorious technicolour, its true colours when it comes to devolution.
They never believed in it and now are working hard to reverse it. Smug Rees Mogg, odious Boris,
creepy Gove and their pals are all coming out with factually inaccurate statements about Scotland's position within this failing union. Scotland is a nation, not a region nor a district and the existence of the border is enshrined in statutes. The shambles post covid will be as nought compared with the disaster that will be brexit. God help us all.

The colours of the Conservative and Unionist Party were never disguised; it has never been for devolution.
Devolution was a big push under New Labour. In late 1997, months after coming to power, there were no Tory MPs in either Scotland or Wales to co-ordinate a 'Vote No' campaign for those referenda.
While effectively uncontested, the Yes campaign in Wales succeeded by the narrowest of margins, 50.3% : 49.7% and everybody accepted the result!

There should have been a co-ordinated UK response to this from the start, but none of them wanted it, because of course they're devolved and they want to make their own decisions and not be pushed around by Westminster.
Now the UK Govt is imposing rules for England only and letting them get on with making their own decisions and they're moaning about it. I don't really understand the problem.

The Conservatives are 'The Unionist Party', so no surprise there, is there? As someone with a Scottish Mum and a Yorkshire Dad I am, very naturally, somewhat of a unionist. Good for the Tories in sticking to it. I'd like to reverse most of Blair's doings. He sowed the seeds of allowing discontent to fester and grow. Before then I and my family were quite comfortable with the status quo.
