"That 1 in 4000 will soon be a percentage of the past in the coming weeks." I totally agree - I reckon 1 in 5000 in a couple of weeks. "NJ - I've thought it through enough and I'm happy with those thoughts, thank you!" Why do you get so touchy? You do understand this is an anonymous interweb site don't you? Why would you care what another poster says? There's a few on...

I doubt smokers will smell it 3Ts?
I always had pocket ashtrays with me and emptied them at home.

I have castigated others for throwing dog ends down when they are stop a few feet from a wall ashtray.

I also have a go at spitters and those who discard other rubbish.
Yes TTT, you should see the state of the pavement outside the local pub here, fag ends as far as the eye can see AND there's a dispenser for them as well!
I've never seen a spitter for years
//I hope it becomes law, the amount of cigarette ends littered on the pavements outside pubs is shocking.//

Which shows you haven't really thought it through any more than the people proposing it have. Pubs without gardens see their smokers stand outside on the pavement smoking. If it is to be banned there (whether to allow tables to be put on the pavement or not) the smokers will simply go out and stand smoking outside next door. So the problem has been shifted from outside the pub to outside the dress shop next door. So you ban it outside the dress shop and guess what? They'll move to outside the ironmonger's next door to the dress shop. Not a particularly bright idea.
The pubs near me all had wall mounted ash-trays outside. Trouble was, they were so easy to empty that the local brats used to come along and do so. All over the pavement.
I do believe that if this is allowed to happen, then once the virus is at a more manageable level, some councils may wish to extend the ban. Which would not be fair on smokers. In my most humble opinion, as per usual.
The worse place I've seen for cig butts is outside shops.

TTT, you might not believe me but clearly the pubs I go to are of a higher quality than your local Spoons.
it's not just all pubs, every single smoking area I ever seen is a pig sty.

Certainly not the case in the country and coastal pubs we frequent TTT.
Or the pubs in our nearby small town. In fact we often see smoking area with no smokers in them. Not all smokers are irresponsible obviously. In fact our favourite pubs have no pavements anywhere near them to hang about on!
Who would agree? All the non-smokers of course and just another thread to allow them to spit out their bile. Personally I think we should also ban all McDonalds, KFC and similar fast-food outlets because all the slobs who get food from there seem to chuck the leftovers and packaging all over the town and countryside. Just as disgusting (far more actually)and wouldn't upset me so I'm alright jack.
Prudie I couldn't care less who smokes as long as they put them out and don't ground them out with their foot on the pavement , their life, their health and their money
Well I am a non smoker (ex smoker so the worst kind!) but at this present moment in time I dont think it is right for this amendment. If pubs are to survive then the smokers need to be welcomed. The argument that more non smokers will go is nonsense, the same argument was used for smoking inside and it proved to be incorrect.
I don’t smoke, I hate it, but I don’t feel that this is the right move, and I certainly don’t want the pubs that I drink in become ‘family friendly’ with hundreds of kids running around the place
This is a monumentally stupid idea; whether people like or not, a lot of people like a fag with their pint, so to consider banning them from smoking in the open air is bananas.

They’re already social pariahs, even though the tax from smokers is £12bn a year, so to drive them away is madness.

I’m convinced I take in more noxious fumes walking up The Strand from Charing Cross than I do from smokers.

I’m a non-smoker, but some of my mates are, and I couldn’t give tinker’s cuss when they smoke next to me.

People are too bloody pious about smokers.
Funny to read this, when they banned smoking in pubs, they said that more people would now go to the pub, along with more families. Well that turned out not to be true if you look at the amount of pub closers since the ban, so you have to ask, who did keep the local pubs going? But that aside, some none smokers will now attend a pub with a deadly virus. Hilarious really :0)

We are so different than other countries where children are welcome as part of fasmily and havee been are taught by example to behave socially. UKs attitude towards children in pubs is so outdated. I have seen far more badly behaved adults in pubs than children. Badly behaved children should be barred along with their very often badly behaved parents.
Might have to go to the pub now :0)
“ Badly behaved children should be barred along with their very often badly behaved parents.”

Sadly they’re not though
I've never really witnessed badly behaved children in pubs.

Pubs should perhsps come in various categories. Perhaps there should be non smoking pubs and smoking pubs, and I don't think the pub closures since the smoking ban has anything to do with the ban. More to do with the change in today's society where food is expected. The old fashioned pub is a thing of the past and pubs that couldn't adapt have closed. Smoking is not the norm these days,

I have no problem with smoking but if you want to smoke stay away from crowded places so that others don't have to put up with it.
