Vaccinate Against C19 ?
will it be mandatory to be vaccinated against covid 19 in certain professions?
and if any such person refused could they be dismissed?
and on what grounds ?
or if they took the vaccine and had a bad reaction would they be able to sue?
if they didn't get vaccinated and they were suspected of infecting someone would they be liable?

However some of us are wary that a vaccine will have been raced through trials and may have unforeseen consequences. It's bad enough when medicine goes wrong for a small group but imagine if it is on a large scale.
I'm not anti Vax by the way - I have my flu injection every year being severely asthmatic.

YMB, do you honestly think they'll prematurely release a vaccine which could potentially have hazardous consequences to people's health?
There will always be a small number of people who have reactions of varying degrees but if the vast proportion of the country is vaccinated against this awful virus then we can consider it beaten and set about returning to normal life and getting the economy back on track.

// It's the least I can do to protect my loved ones //
er no, the vaccine is intended to protect you. there is a medical opinion (but as always with scientists there's no agreement) that those with antibodies can still transmit the virus. if that's the case, the only thing that will protect your loved ones is their own vaccine dose.

rockyraccoon you are right about pressure. I used to refuse the flu vac when I was working in the NHS but staff were never pressured. I do know though that district nursing staff used to pressure vulnerable people in the community to have the vac. It was a big issue with them when the mental capacity legislation was introduced. The content was pretty much the standard attitude for Occupational Therapists before it became law but for many of the physical health nurses I knew it was a real head exploder that they did not have the absolute right to take decisions for their patients on the basis of what they believed was good for the patient. btw I am pro vac in general but not pro pressure.

( ya see airplane ? ) I just cant stand it - more *** questions masquerading as proper deep thought
a) - no - vaccination is never mandatory. (Typhoid Mary was 1928 and we have moved on) - most professionals are not so crazy as to say - 'I know ! there is a vaccination which will prevent covid and I might die if I dont have it so therefore I wont have it!"
I admit there are a few totally crazed people on AB who say this. Brainless gormless and irredeemably stupid does not predict the likely MRI scan results
b) - no alteration of contract - sorted out with Hepatitis B. The govt advice is quite clearly persuasion.
c) on what grounds there are nt any

//Imagine if it was smallpox.//
Vaccination against smallpox is not compulsory.
//….do you honestly think they'll prematurely release a vaccine which could potentially have hazardous consequences to people's health?//
I need a while to think about that. Let’s say about 1.5 seconds, that should do it.
Just on the legal side, it will take a change in primary legislation to make vaccination compulsory in the UK. Section 45 of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 gives Ministers the power to make orders to control the spread of disease. This is the way that most of the Coronavirus regulations have been enacted. However, it specifically prevents Ministers from making orders for people to undergo compulsory medical treatment:
45E Medical treatment
(1) Regulations under section 45B or 45C may not include provision requiring a person to undergo medical treatment.
(2)“ Medical treatment ” includes vaccination and other prophylactic treatment.
