Quite simple really. They either get back on the pitch and carry on playing or they forfeit the match. They should think themselves lucky that the match has not already been declared over in their opponents' favour.

That wasn't the impression I got from my (admittedly very brief) scan of the report. I thought it was just the Turkish team which had absented itself. Anyway, it's no matter and it's still quite simple. If it's a league type competition, no points for either side. If it's a knock out competition both sides eliminated. Their slot is entered into the the next round draw as a "spare" and whoever it is drawn against receives a bye. You can't mess about with nonsense like this.

Penalising the teams makes no sense in a situation like this. Had Basaksehir walked off unilaterally then there might have been a case. But indeed both teams did go off in pretty quick succession.
From a competition point of view the result would have been crucial had Man Utd completed their outrageous comeback via a non-penalty and the Hand of Harry Maguirdona. As it is it’s still important to decide top spot.
