Are they? I'm not sure, we have a Thatcher Close here and the estate was built in the 70s so I doubt it would have been named after those men who thatched roofs??

it has sizeable Bengali community, but its a sop to them and seems to forget the many thousands of non Bengali people who inhabit the place.

The OED defines it as ‘originally: well-informed, up-to-date. Now chiefly: alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice’, while Urban defines it as ‘being woke means being aware… knowing what’s going on in the community (related to racism and social injustice)’.
