I think so both sides seem happy as do many commentators, even the ABBC.

Well, it's a damn sight better than no deal, which is the alternative. I get the odea.that some folk would rather that had happened just so they could paint Boris as the villain. He's done a good job in this instance.

It's a good compromise for all, let's be happy with it.
It's the best we will get. Yes, it is a good deal for all concerned.
Wait and see about that. The good thing is that all those truckers can now get home - late but home.

A very nasty political move on behalf of the French imo. Nothing to do with the virus and health. That was just an excuse.
LJ, Surely you didn't expect anything helpful from them!
No. But so many people did and thought they were acting on behalf of the heal of their people. They couldn't give a s***, or penny curse, about that it was just political and what they could get out of it and look like shining examples of piety.
Can't argue with that LJ!
I heard the French Border Patrol, having been pretty useless in previous months, pulled in an inflatable on their side of the duck pond, the conversation being 'Allo Allo, qu'avons-nous ici (what do we have here), des immigrants?

"Non, non..... nous sommes des camionneurs français essayant de rentrer à la maison pour Noël (No - we're French truck drivers trying to get home for Christmas)

Macron shot himself in the foot - 80% of the drivers were EU based, most of them French followed by Poles..... Apparently Merkel gave him the one-two over this.
Minty's quiet. Do you think she is too busy eating scones and jam and cream?
wrong thread.
Merry Brexmas :)
In my most humble opinion (as a mere painter and decorator), the deal simply means both sides finally saw sense and realised that 'no deal' would greatly harm everyone concerned. So, after what feels like a lifetime, our exit from the EU is finally an almost amicable divorce.

True. But they had to dissuade any other EU national from thinking about leaving and had to make their political points.

"nation"
I might be somewhat cynical here, but I can't help feeling that this deal was secretly agreed months ago, and that the subsequent posturing was for the benefit of the respective home markets.
Jack //deal was secretly agreed months ago,//
That's a bit far fetched Jack, I doubt it very much.
How would that benefit anyone, Jackdaw?
What I meant was that such a deal was always on the cards but neither side wanted to be seen making concessions. As I said, this is a product of my innate cynicism.
It’s a good time in a way. Anyone will be willing to trade with anyone else when the pandemic is over.
I tend to agree with Jackdaw - an early agreement would have critics claiming they hadn't tried hard enough and they could have wrung out more from the opposition if they'd fought a bit harder. The argument applies to both sides in the negotiations.
Both sides are bound to claim they're happy. They have to sell it to the citizens and their reputation depends on convincing them. Being a long document we'll need to hear what legally educated folk can pull out of it before judging how good it is.
