Apparently JK Rowling published an open letter on Wednesday. It’s caused a big stink. It’s about toilets and trans people. Just wanted to read it (the whole thing) out of interest, but alas I can’t find it anywhere on the internet. Any ideas guys? Even looked on her blog & website and can’t find it!

Cheers in advance.

Not true, zacs... as we have already established, these things are not well publicised and removed quickly.
The woman who came "second" to Rachel McKinnon... complained about it being unfair, received several death threats and retracted and apologised. Even just a few cases are unnecessary and too many.
To turn it around... can you give me one specific reason why a man should believe he is really a woman, or the benefit of being "treated like one".
I think women have had to fight too hard and too long to get their place in society, to give it up now, to make a man feel better. You might not mind, but we don't all want to go back 500 years and start again.
Jourdain, he sounds genuine and respectful, good luck to him. I'm really referring to transgender, than those actually transitioning.
// So it comes down to is a woman transitioning to be a male is not seen as a threat to males, but the other way round it is a threat. Logic would say this is wrong, but feeling and instinct don't. //

It's not illogical at all. When over 90% of violent offences and sexual offences are carried out by males, and the majority of victims are females and children, it's not illogical that the male is viewed as a potential threat.

Imagine, Zacs, if you were alone in the Gents and a female dressed as a male came in. You might regard this as surprising/odd/amusing/insensitive/insert your own emotion. Now imagine you are a female alone in the Ladies and male dressed as a female comes in. This is quite, quite different. I would be at the very least wary, but also possibly intimidated, scared, vulnerable. I hate to generalise but I don't think I'd be overstepping the mark to suggest that most females would share similar feelings.

It's not that we walk about in a permanent, conscious state of fear, but it's second nature to us to be wary. And it is why we need 'safe spaces' though I detest the term. It is also one of the reasons why I dispute that any male can know what being a female 'feels like'.
Females do dress like males. If I popped to the shop now I'd be wearing a hoodie, jeans and trainers. Same kind of clothes my OH would wear.
Yes - definitely non-threatening in either mode of dress or behaviour.

I should just add that I am FAR from being a nervous Nancy type, should anyone be thinking that after my previous post. :D
Your post was perfect, China. Ummm, me too... but I don't suggest I'm a man and should be treated like one. So why are men not allowed the same?
'can you give me one specific reason why a man should believe he is really a woman, or the benefit of being "treated like one".'

Because something inside him tells him so I would imagine. I've never really looked into things that much. I've no idea of 'the benefit' other than it might make them more comfortable.

'You might not mind, but we don't all want to go back 500 years and start again.'

I think that typifies the grossly exaggerated situation. There is no way a few undesirable instances equate to or even approach the potential scenario you are predicting.
Zacs, I'll leave you time to actually find out, as you clearly haven't really looked.
China, I can imaging all sorts of occurrences and I'm not denying they are happening but, once again, lets keep things in perspective and not imagine that this is some sort of sea-change in the way society works as that would be being somewhat unrealistic.
I have looked. I've looked all around me, Pix. I've listened to news stories and I follow some pretty clued up people on Twitter and I see nothing even approaching the societal changes you're suggesting these few incidents are the catalyst for.
China: 'it's second nature to us to be wary. And it is why we need 'safe spaces'.

I imagine quite a few women (including the majority I know) would find that approach to life insulting and not a little degrading.
Not enough, though zacs... as soon as the laws and language change, that is societal.... and you must have seen it on AB if nothing else.
I expect you will continue to fight for men's rights, but I will continue to disagree, until they are "as well as" rather than "instead of" ours.
You're being ridiculous now, zacs. You have no idea.
Then the majority of the women I know must be doing a bloody good job of acting tough as I wouldn't cross the majority of them.
Of course they are.
I think we may be talking at slight cross purposes. I can see that the few incidents of people with the appearance of being Male, being in Female designated areas can be disturbing and measures should be taken to stop this (no, I don't know what these are) whereas I'm arguing that these incident's are in no way, shape or form, an indicator of a major change in society and to argue that they are is baseless and unduly 'glass half empty'.
It could almost be construed that you're saying that women are the weaker Sex, Pix.
ZM/Sunk any comment on my post at 15:22?
//Much as Togo is a *** sometimes//
If, and when he is, be assured it is deliberate. Others need to make no such effort do they?
Karen Whiten (Formerly Stephen Wood) raped and attacked women and children, stabbed a male neighbour and was cruel to animals.

All in all , a dangerous predatory criminal, whichever prison they were/are put in they should be kept away from all others.
