Contactless Increase

The limit for a contactless card is to increase to £100. This is mad and unnecessary - if you lost your card you could be several hundred pounds down before you could report it. I know there's a limit to the number of times a card can be used contactless before there's a block and you have to enter your PIN, but £100 is absurd.

I have to use a tool to press a keypad - I have a hand disability which means i'm unable to do it with my fingers. So this is great for me. 20 years ago, before the wider use of chip and pin used to have enormous trouble - my signature never looked the same because my hands make weiling a pen difficult. Lloyds used to have a debit card that had your photo on,and that saved me on may occaision

The only danger I see, cash is a great way of spreading a virus, and always has been. More so now, only you will be handling your card.

why is the chancellor increasing the amount of your money you can spend ?
why can you not have a personal limit set by agreement between you and your bank if you want a £10 contactless limit or even a £1000 contactless limit ?

Recently I've noticed more and more places, mainly takeaways, have a notice on their doors, 'cash only'. Does anybody know why they're doing this?

14.22 May be to reduce minimum loss to bank if you lose it, I would think banks have to agree such an increase.

It's common in Italy.
I remember going out for a meal at a place once and offering to pay.
To my horror, I was told "cash only".
Luckily I had just enough on me.
I can't think why they'd have done that :-)

read The Mayflower Madam - it isnt very good - one of the descendants of The Pilgrms ran an escort agency. Cachet - if the punter didnt say cashay he was turned down. I dont like it much and you can get a card wivvart da contactless chip

Lost one and the finder got free bottles of vodka ( until it cut out three free that is! ) even tho the publican knew me and knew the person using the card wasnt me.

or if you are worried only put a limited amount of money in the contactless account ie: £50
then if you need more just pop onto your mobile phone and transfer the money from another account instantly

brainiac, I assume you listened to the radio show re. this, what were the comments like on there for/against?
My first thought when I heard the idea muted was that it could make it quite worthwhile for muggers, who could make a nice few bob in the short time between the mugging and the card being stopped.
