Let's take it as a given that women should feel safe on our streets at whatever time, but to do so Baroness Jones has suggested a 6pm curfew for men.

"Speaking in the House of Lords last night Baroness Jones, a mother of two daughters, said: 'In the week that Sarah Everard was abducted and, we suppose, killed—because remains have been found in a woodland in Kent — I argue that, at the next opportunity for any Bill that is appropriate, I might put in an amendment to create a curfew for men on the streets after 6 pm.

'I feel this would make women a lot safer, and discrimination of all kinds would be lessened.'"

I can only speak for myself, but I've managed to make it to my age without ever harrassing/attacking/raping/killing women and I don't intend to start!

So does she have a point, or can this be consigned to pretty much everything else that the Greens come out it with as total and utter nonsense from an irrelevant party?

It's plainly a very silly idea.
Another ridiculous policy idea from the ludicrous greens, how they get people to vote for them I have no idea.
I don't think it's a "policy idea from the Greens" is it? Just someone giving an opinion.

I think some sensible policies on targetting domestic violence might be better. Two women a week die at the hands of their husbands, partners and exes.

The reason this terrible crime against Sarah Everard has got so much publicity is that it is, thankfully so rare.
MAABOF!
just self identify as female. simples.
OK, if the curfew starts at 6 p.m., when will we be able to go back on the streets? You see, she hasn’t thought it through properly.
She was joking surely?

Would this curfew apply to police officers?
Its the same sort of idea as women only buses/train carriages. It'll be interesting to see whether transgenders for example would be happy with it. Whilst there are issues all this seems overkill. Harriet Harman was saying today the problem is men, am not sure why this dreadful case suddenly makes the issue one of men v women as women are scared to go on the streets after dark, well me to in town centres at night, nothing to do with male/female
Not worthy of discussion, so I won’t.
Does this mean you cannot be out with your brother, father, husband or boyfriend after 6.00 pm?
I suspect this might be a fightback against the "oh women should stay home after dark" thing
Of course the can of worms would be opened if a man decided to self identify as female which I'm sure the greens support then he/she would be able to ignore the ridiculous curfew. Oh how they would tie themselves up in knots.
Utterly idiotic and incredibly insulting to men.
If a man is likely to be intent on such actions they are unlikely to be worried about breaking a curfew.
Rather awful that this poor woman's death is being politicized before she's even buried.
Baroness Jones, for the Greens, just said on TV that 'It's not an entirely serious suggestion'. That's alright then.
She's obviously too stressed to be still doing her baronessing any more. I'd suggest a long lie down until she's back to normal.

Did no one point out to her that it's not April 1st yet ?
no one can put a curfew on men, its a patently stupid idea, the women killed are often murdered by someone they know, going on news items in recent months. A woman was interviewed on the tv, she explained she was sexually assaulted and groped by a man on a train at 9am, so how does that fit in with the Greens idea.
It should be clear to anyone with a brain, that the issue of violence against women is less to do with advising women how to protect themselves, and more to do with educating men's behaviour.

This should start at nursery level, where a level of respect should be instilled in all children about everyone else, instead of the rampant enforcement of stereotypes that governs behaviour into adulthood.

For example, I remember my father telling me that I would 'never understand women', giving me carte blanche to regard women as some kind of inferior species, without the tiresome task of actually showing them the respect and courtesy due to anyone anywhere.

As an adult man, I do not claim to understand women - I find the differences in the genders endlessly facinating, but I do claim to try, and that puts me streets ahead of a lot of my contemporaries.

We need to stop simply accepting that violence and threats are simply an ocupational hazard of being a woman in modern society, and start adusting the thinking of men, and their attitudes towards women - that is the route out of this dreadful situation in which we all live.
