This was an HS2 issue and 18,000 voters didn’t turn out. The Tory candidate was also very woke and green. However, this should be a wake up call for Boris. There is a whole different country outside the Westminster Bubble and it is fed up with being lied to, fobbed off, and locked down. You can’t run a Democratic country by fear.
Yes that was my “maybe there is a God” part two below.
It is fascinating; Labour loses in Hartlepool, the Tories are blown away in true blue Buckinghamshire.
That result reinforces many of the local election results recently in the south.
Politics maybe really is changing ..
Yes the fact that the Tories still have a large majority is hardly the point. These results are not significant for the immediate changes they make to the numbers in Parliament.
Hardly the end for Johnson. Yet.
But the traditional Tory voters of somewhere like Chesham, who strongly supported the EU, and who probably don’t look with much enthusiasm at the populist Tory appeal in the north, are probably not feeling all that well disposed to the party just now
I seen loads of these bi-elections of the years that swing to the Libs like Crosby and there of no significance in the longrun. When it matters in a general election it wont happen
HS2 very much the local issue in that constituency and although "Florence" has been busily chewing her way under the chilterns for the past month (so a change of MP won't stop it), the electorate could at least show their displeasure by kicking out the party that supported it.
