One of the reasons that England has done better this year is that they've been more of a team, standing up for each other, and less a collection of individuals as in the past. Nice to see so many people supporting their team, too. Obviously not Lee Anderson, poor chap, but I'm not sure that anybody will miss him ...

That's according to the book I've read - there appear to be many books on the subject and it was a very long time ago, so who knows what really happened and does it really matter any more?

I get what you're saying, but I don't think you expressed quite right. Taking the knee might be considered a symbol of unity - the team have taken a stand on something and are willing to accept the boos and criticism as a whole team.
In that context taking the knee isn't is a symbol of team unity rather than the cause of it.

sp1814, I read a news story saying the famous actor Lawrence Fox was in the same bind. Having announced that he wouldn't be backing the England team because of this shameful knee-taking, he risked being accused of being anti-England now they were in the final, so he had to back down.
The writer said it was a clear case of people with principles vs self-advertising virtue signallers ... but perhaps it wasn't the footballers who were the latter.

It is the other way around. The camaraderie leads to taking the knee to show support for every member of the team. You only have to look at the horrendous racist comments posted by "supporters" on social media since the loss to understand why a white member of the team would show true support to a black member of the team. One team, what affects one affects all.

I'm no fan of Qatar webbo but come on, that figures monsense. The official figure is 30, yes thats 37 too many but nothing like 6500. That higher figure is deaths of migrants anywhere in Quatar for any reason in the last 10 years or so is'nt it
