All that surveillance and he still managed to do what he did.
what sort of surveillance do you want? He'd done nothing to warrant being locked up; when he grabbed a knife in a shop, he was dead within moments. Much better than announcing after a mass murder that the suspect was "known to the authorities"; there, the authorities were almost on top of him, and he was the only person to die. My sympathies to those hurt, but it was close to being a perfect counter-terror action.

naomi - // But he had done something, AH. He supported IS and experience should tell us that giving people like him the benefit of the doubt very often results in innocent people being maimed or worse. //
Last time I checked, supporting something was not considered a crime - and we don't punish people for imagining what their support of something may lead them to do.

AH, could he have commited an offence in any of these cicumstances?.If he was a supporter then he would not have to have commited an actual crime.

naomi - // Anyone who supports Islamic terrorist groups is an enemy of the west and has no place in our society. //
It sounds like a perfect solution - it is just moving the problem somewhere else, but as long as it's not here, who cares?
But seriously - this is the thin edge of a really nastry wedge.
If you start shifting people out of their homes because they support something you think is wrong (and I am not for a moment suggesting that it is anything but wrong) then where do you draw the line?
Do elected vegans start pushing for legislation that meat-eaters are moved somewhere else?
Do elected bike fanatics start lobying for an end to all motor transport?
That's the sort of mind-set you set free if you start sanctioning the movement of people whose ideologies don't align with your own, and in my view, that's a path we should not be starting down.

Jackdaw - // As Naomi says, he should have been deported earlier and not, as some bleeding hearts on here would have us do, wait until he had blown a few people to smithereens before taking action. //
If you can find anyone on here - 'bleeding heart' or otherwise who has ever defended any terrorist action anywhere in the world ever, I would be interested in your evidence.
