sevenOP, just to be clear, I was talking nations and governments rather than individuals. When even Vizzini in Princess Bride says "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - and that was 1987, well before the latest round of land wars in Asia - you'd think it would have filtered upward to governments; but no.

These tiny numbers of 'leaders' have no serious qualms in 'small wars' or proxy wars, as you probably well know jno, hence Israel will fly over Jordan or Lebanon with impunity to bomb Syria or Iraq, but they would never attack or even fly over Turkey... etc Yemen, Sahel and sub Sahel Africa etc.,, easy proxy, destabilising game.

Unfortunately for the Israelis and by proxy the Yanks, those uncowed Iranians got just too many and powerful toys that even the Samson option just does not scare them and their high tech aerial killing and terrorizing planes can no longer venture where they had no right to over Iran.
Remember a civil war was going on via Bin Laden and his predecessors via Carter's Brzezinski USA millions of dollars funding in 1978 before the Soviet intervention ( and possibly before ?//?)

I voted to remain. As I still live and work in the UK I'm very keen for the benefits of Brexit to start kicking in but I unfortunately I haven't experienced any so far, just rising costs and rising complexity of doing business.
