“ Yes, Eton, Oxford, and among other things a successful career in journalism and politics. He’s a right thicko!”
he got those things because of his family and his old school ties… not his merits.
Going to Eton is a privilege for families with money or connections it is not a reward for hard work or exceptional talent… and if you go to Eton then the rest is a matter of course.
he was not a successful journalist… can’t think of a single “scoop” he achieved in his career, and he was sacked for dishonesty… even he has admitted that several of his stories were made up. Other than that he wrote amusing opinion pieces for bigoted people.
you are a moron if you think that it takes family connections only to get into Eton or Oxford. I think as a Classicist he is a pretty clever bloke, perhaps he is finding it hard now, but so would Keir starmer im sure. Who would you like to see in the top job then.
"you are a moron if you think that it takes family connections only to get into Eton or Oxford. "
i did say that it takes money as well...
The UK is not a meritocracy emmie... I don't "hate" Johnson for using his family connections - if we're honest most of us who "get ahead" do so in a similar way... if he had stuck to his career as an after-dinner speaker I would not care... what I do object to is this man being given very powerful positions when he is obviously not suited to them!
Not at all... it's a fact of life... most of us do rely on our family assets or "who-you-know" to get anywhere in life... but we should be honest about it... i don't think anybody is helped by pretending that Boris Johnson became Prime Minister on his merits!!
Boris won a scholarship to Eton, he studied Classics at Oxford and was President of the Oxford Union, he was assistant Editor at the Daily Telegraph, Editor of The Spectator, Mayor of London and is now Prime Minister, so all in all, not bad. You don't half sound sour, untitled.
I am not sour! I don't really care if people use their family/friends to get ahead - I firmly believe that it's who you know rather than what you know. All of us do that...
I do find it very annoying when people who have done that are presented as being something they are not though...
