Who Wants Masks?

Boris announced yesterday that masks are to be made compulsory again in shops. In the summer he said that there would be no going back on the relaxation of measures. Face masks are a complete waste of time given the way that most people wear them so how many will join me in this little bit of civil disobedience and refuse to wear them?

Or do better yourself;-)
If your going to refuse to wear one as an act if civil disobedience won't you need to wear a badge saying mask refuser' or else I might just assume your exempt so you'll have not sent any message and just risked being a spreader or possibly picking up covid.
Facemasks have always been compulsory in northern Ireland no Facemasks no entry.
It should never have been relaxed.I think there will be more conditions imposed in the run up to Christmas.
And Wales and Scotland. And same when I went to Europe. no problem, no 'look at me I know better' people like diddly

No one seems to have taken on board my point that most people (a) have masks that are worse than useless and/or (b) don't wear them or treat them in the way you're supposed to.
that is true to some extent diddly.
Why does that influence your decision? If they’re doing it wrong it’s probably even more important that you protect yourself.
I think you will find that most people will be happy to go back to wearing masks in retail stores and public transport and I have never stopped wearing one. If you want total lockdown then carry on with your disobedience.
most people won't tolerate another total lockdown, i don't think.
All I will say is that IF you had been ill with COVID then you would want to do EVERYTHING you can to minimise getting it again !!

Naomi - I thought it was a well known fact that a mask is more to protect other people rather than you?
At least if you wear one and are wearing it properly you know you are trying to do your bit to help. As someone who had Covid back in July and was quite ill with it I still wear one when needed. Five months on and my taste and sense of smell is still not back to what it was.
in your case Minty i understand, but quite honestly i only know three apart from you, people who have had it, and that was my friend, her husband and daughter and they are now over it and are fine.
and 20 months on my breathing and fatigue still very bad !
what strange logic? //I thought it was a well known fact that a mask is more to protect other people rather than you//

Well then, if it is indeed protecting other people, then it is in protection-mode. Make them compulsory in confined spaces and enforce the wearing of them - anything to help lower the risk of infection.
I am just about recovered after 18 months of long covid. I still have very little sense of taste of smell. For six months of that I struggled to walk to the loo, and slept about 16 hours a day. I wasn't even particularly unwell when I got the virus. Anything anyone can do to protect others should be a given.

Do us a favour if you get ill though
Do not go to your gp or the hospital
Your medical knowledge will save you
Yes DTC, or as Tesco would say every little helps. Anything that can help control it. Nobody wants another lockdown.
Diddly, you can't do anything about other people. Just make sure you are obeying instructions, and don't worry what others are doing.
