Brexit Benefits
What with the war in Ukraine, Brexit has not figured much in the news recently; knowing that Boris Johnson follows my posts on this site, mentioning blue passports and the Crown Mark on pub glasses – I’d like to add ‘killing our honey-bees using EU-banned neonicotinoid pesticides’.
So when Boris announces this additional Brexit benefit – you’ll know he read it here first.
In no particular order – the main Brexit benefits to date are:-
- Blue passports
- The Crown Mark on pub glasses (†)
- Mobile phone companies able to make roaming charges (when using your phone in mainland Europe)
- Killing our honey-bees with EU banned pesticides
† Buenchico has claimed that it would be perfectly legal for the UK to have placed the Crown Mark on pub glasses while members of the EU. You have to ask yourself, do you believe Boris Johnson (who has been sacked from his job three times for lying – so far), or Buenchico?

After 6 years of being "discouraged" by the Spanish authorities, who instead welcomed Russian visitors, British tourists and holiday home owners are being begged to go back to Spain. All is forgiven we love you(Interpretation. We are desperate for your money) come back, it was a misunderstanding, says the Mayor of Marbella, we can live in harmony once more.
Did any Brexiters say, prior to the vote, that they expected no benefits apart from sovereignty? The ones I saw on telly seemed to be seeking deportation of muslims and £350 mill on the NHS. Both mad aspirations. Funny, now that nothing good has happened, that the Brexit fans here claim that they never expected anything good apart from sov. Nice to know that NJ doesn't give a toss about the impact on hard-working Brits, so long as he gets his life-long wish for sov.
The Office for Budget Responsibility has stated that as at the end of last year, exports and imports were respectively still 13% and 12% below their 2019 averages – other advanced economy goods exports, by contrast, already exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 3%. With the OBR estimating UK total import/exports being 15% lower than had the UK remained a member state.
I don’t recall Brexiteers announcing that leaving the EU would have such a damaging effect on our economy.

Membership of the EU is like pregnancy, you either are, or you aren't, you can't be a little bit bit pregnant, & you can't be a little bit out of EU membership.
The country voted democratically to leave & has left, it is over, done, finito, fertig. If you don't like that them move to another county, but please put a sock in it & stop whining like a spoilt child.

//The ones I saw on telly seemed to be seeking deportation of muslims…//
I can only imagine you were tuning in to a strange programme. I don’t recall anybody seeking the deportation of Muslims, or indeed of anybody else for that matter.

If you look at my posts during the period of purgatory from 2016 to 2020 you will find that I rarely claimed any benefits would accrue from Brexit. Maybe once or twice, when I suggested we would do better seeking trade with the wider world rather than with the protectionist racket that is the EU, but that’s about it. But something good has come of it – the UK is no longer bound by EU law (bar re disgraceful situation in Northern Ireland) and is no longer hostage to the whims of a bunch of unelected foreign bureaucrats.
//Nice to know that NJ doesn't give a toss about the impact on hard-working Brits, so long as he gets his life-long wish for sov.//
The financial impact on hard-working Brits (of whom I count myself as one) will be minimal. Far greater influences over their finances abound from other forces. Any other impacts, such as having to complete an online form before visiting a foreign country, they will have to learn to live with – in the same way as people in other normal (i.e. non-EU) countries do.
//…so anecdotally, at least one Brexiteer voted leave in order to rid the country of Johnny Foreigner.//
And your point is what, exactly? If a voter was foolish enough to believe that voting to leave the EU would rid the UK of Johnny Foreigner, then more fool him. He should not have listened to other people. That leaves aside the fact that he is entitled to want to see the country rid of foreigners if that is his persuasion. There should be no veto over his opinion, however unpalatable it may be to others.
