'With Snake Island in Ukrainian hands, the threat to Russia’s Black Sea fleet will go up, the risk of an amphibious assault on Odesa will go down, the chances of the Kremlin smashing Ukraine’s economy is reduced and Putin’s stranglehold over the provision of grain to the world’s poorest regions, and indeed food prices globally, is weakened - as will his economy be when prices settle.
Tactical actions can sometimes have strategic effects. Wars can be won or lost over the smallest details.
Whether that blasted chunk of rock in the Black Sea is one such detail will be revealed, probably sooner than later.'

It makes my day when Putin gets a setback. I admire Ukraine for the way they have reacted these last five months and they deserve our support and help.
Whoever is on Zmiyniy Island is a sitting duck, so I assume no one will be there to see the Ukraine flag flying. But it is good that Russia has been force off and Ukraine claim the territory back. Don’t think it will make any difference to the result of the war.
As previously pointed out, removing Russian air defences from here was the key objective in the fight to render their black sea less effective.
If it wasn’t important it would not have been so bitterly contested
Apologies I am guilty of fake info.
The flag pictured flying is pretty war.
Currently the flag rests on the ground after an air drop.
Oh the shame :-)
Meanwhile Russian ammunition depots far behind the front lines continue to go boom at an alarming (for the Russians) rate
