Only 1% of the current crop of Tory Party MPs came from working class jobs or familys , showing a growing represention Gap in Parliament Which shows it's a party for the rich and they intend keeping it that way, so the rich can stay rich or get richer.
So much for Boris's lies about levelling up ... its him who needs Levelling

Absolutely Naomi, I understand Bobbin's post perfectly.
Party - parties
Family - families
Will that keep you happy?
I think politics now is seen as a career in itself, not something you take up having had experience in other walks of life. And as with other careers they tend to run in families - doctor, lawyer, actor, etc.
Thanks for showing balance maggie... but am not sure why it was even raised on this thread which is about politicians being more representative of society not about spelling mistakes
I'm always happy, maggiebee, but thanks for asking. :o)
The same old Marxist nonsense about 'class'. It is, at best, a nebulous concept. Does a 'working class' boy who gets to Oxford and becomes a barrister then become a member of a different class or does he somehow retain his original status? Does a woman, born in a stately home and who becomes a homeless wino somehow drop a class?
bobbinwales - well you know how these posts often go way off track. Afraid now and again the teacher in me comes to the fore. Didn't mean any offence to you.

The debate about social mobility that has been going on for the last 25 years, has obviously passed you by ;-)

Lol, from Sky News, the Human Question Mark puts her foot in it again.

Dorries mocked for comments on Sunak's expensive clothes after resurfaced interview reveals she owns '£6,000 diamond earrings'
This morning Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries caused a stir among MPs after mocking Rishi Sunak over his expensive attire.
The Conservative MP, whose comments provoked a backlash from parliamentary colleagues, pointed to reports that Mr Sunak had been spotted wearing a £3,500 suit while Liz Truss was more likely to be seen in a pair of £4.50 earrings.
However, a resurfaced interview Ms Dorries gave to The Guardian in 2007 in which she admitted to owning "£6,000 diamond earrings" has now emerged on social media.
In it, Ms Dorries, who is described as a "platinum-haired, Fendi bag-carrying Conservative member for Mid Bedfordshire", said: "I will wear cheaper clothes but there are things I will not compromise on, like my £6,000 diamond earrings."
In another interview Ms Dorries gave to the Daily Express in 2017, she described doing two big shops a year where she "probably spends over £1,000" and owning "20-30" pairs of heels.
Asked what the most expensive item in her wardrobe was, Ms Dorries said: "Probably some of my jewellery. I don't skimp on jewellery. I've designed some pieces myself at a bespoke jeweller. I saw some items in the window but I wanted them to look slightly different."
In another question, Ms Dorries was asked how much she much she spent on clothes each month.
She replied: "I buy clothes at the start of each season, rather than monthly, so I do two big hits a year where I probably spend over £1,000. I buy almost everything on the internet, though.
"You need to buy clothes at the beginning of the season when they start coming into store."

But don’t forget, we’re all in this together. PMSL.
More from Sky.

The comments, which reflected the latest sign of a bitter Tory leadership battle, now appear to be causing a stir among MPs.
Responding to the culture secretary's comments, Conservative MP Angela Richardson, a supporter of Mr Sunak, has apparently "muted" her on Twitter...

Separate report.

This morning, Truss supporter Nadine Dorries attacked Sunak's expensive suits and shoes; while Sunak posed in a pub in front of a beer called Dizzy Blonde. I'm sure it was just a coincidence.

Meanwhile…..

The puerile nature of this leadership contest is embarrassing,' says Tory MP
It appears that tension is mounting in the Conservative Party as both leadership contenders try to gather the support of the party's members.
In the last few moments, Conservative MP Johnny Mercer has said the "peurile nature" of the contest is "embarrassing" and it is "time to raise the standards".
The comments come after Liz Truss's team accused Rishi Sunak of consistently being "soft" on China and of being backed by Beijing state media.

Lol, dunno about a red/blue divide but there’s plenty of blue on blue friendly fire going around!
you sound more green (with envy) than red (socialist) fatticus...hate to break it tou you but some people are smarter/ luckier/ more talented/ more educated, work harder and earn more than others and as long as Dorris pays her taxes shouldnt she spend it how she wants ... what you spend your money on might seem extravagant to those on foodbanks or in migrant camps or in 90% of the third world
I couldn’t agree more bobbinwales(about your ‘more educated than others’ remark).

In regards to the green accusation, you’ve obviously missed the hypocrisy in the Dorries story, have another read of it and see if you can work it out without the need to have it explained?
what on earth your long posts of gossip and tittle tattle have to do with the important topic of social mobility I have no idea fatticus.
bobbinwales
//I have no idea//

We concur on that at least.

I didn’t mention social mobility, that was Gromit.
