or ‘putting a different perspective on events’ as some might say.

//Bosses of the London theatre
say the play, I, Joan - which
charts the life of the French
patron saint - will "offer the
possibility of another point of
view" when it arrives later this
month.
The lead role will be played by
Isobel Thom, who also uses the
pronouns "they/them".//

The pronoun bit told me everything.
Maid of Orleans or Made in Orleans?
What next? All female adaptation of The Crusades?

You don’t believe me?

Let me think…you’re probably right.

Kinda enjoy seeing the reaction to such stories - like the other two I mentioned.

People saddling up their high horses for a quick canter around the Outrage Paddock.
Queen Christina (of Swden) was played by Greta Garbo, but there have always been lingering questions about her sex.

https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Christina_of_Sweden

And then there were the stories of Pope Joan. In theory nobody believed them but since then (it is said) papal candidates have to have their testicles checked out.

And there have been plenty of verified stories of soldiers who turned out to be female. So I can't see anything outrageous in all this.
So rather than tell the truth you’re rude to people who don’t embrace on your particular bandwagon. Par for the course.
*don’t embrace your*
Well said jno
naomi24

The theatre isn’t the place for truth.

This is a play.

It’s interpretive, not a documentary.

Shakespeare used the theatre to challenge and reflect the social mores of the time - why not continue that tradition?
Not well said at all. The ‘soldier’ in question was female. That doesn’t make her ‘non-binary’. Absolute load of tosh.
naomi24

And it’s not read to speak my mind. As you’ve said before - I’m just being frank.
No seriously jno…well researched. That’s what I like about stories like this. People like you do some digging and educate the rest of us.

Again - well played.
naomi24

For read read rude.

If you see what I mean.
SP, I asked YOU to tell the truth. We’re not at the theatre.

I’ll tell you what I think. I think you’re excited about this because you think it furthers a cause that’s close to your heart. I doubt very much ‘theatre’ has anything to do with it at all.
naomi24

Is that what you think?

Ha ha…well who knows! You may be right.

Enjoy your Saturday night. Will have to leave this thread now as we’re off to the Globe . To see their new production of Hamlet.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are being played by French & Saunders!
They’re not non-binary either. Have a nice evening.
The film Ben Hur is being renamed Ben Him :-)
Ben They, surely?
A bunch of people who never go to the theatre, complaining about somebody called Isobel who's playing Joan of Arc in a play they'd never go to see even if they identified "properly" ...
I’m a theatre-goer, ellipsis, but you’re right in one respect. I wouldn’t go to see this.
///Queen Christina (of Swden)///

just to make clear... she wasn't Queen of Swindon.
Jean Seberg will be turning in her grave. She played the definitive version of Joan of Arc in Otto Preminger's Saint Joan when she was just nineteen.
From what I've read about Jeanne d'Arc, she was a religious nutter who heard voices, and who insisted on dressing as a man. What stories or films have you lot been reading or watching? If her name was Greta d'Arc, she'd be slagged off on AB as a stroppy ignorant kid who thought she knew it all.
