The eye witness was 75 yards from where the stabbing incident occurred. What he claims to have seen, and what actually happened are two different things.
He saw a group trying to help him, and mistook them for his attackers. And peeped from his curtains instead of helping.

A 44 year old man has been arrested, and police are treating it as a robbery gone wrong.

The Police had a good idea what had happened right away.
Which is why none of the young people in Runnymede Gardens was taken in for questioning or arrested. And why no description of a young person was issued.

Tesco where the stabbing took place would have had CCTV, but possibly didn’t have a good image of the attacker’s face. Which is why the Police were initially asking people to check their security cameras. Once they had a good image, tracking down the culprit and arresting him was quick.
