... as you see more and more of Liz Truss on the telly, have you had your equivalent of the Kinnock Moment yet?

I'm sure Kinnock would have won if he'd had the gumption to wait until after the contest before holding the victory celebration. The sheer smugness of it had the undecideds flocking to vote Tory in their droves. With Truss, most of the votes are already in.

You believe the story, not the truth. Plenty of support for Brown at the time.
was there, i don't recall that at all.
Very conveniently, lots of people don't. But he saved this country from financial meltdown. Without the intervention he took, there would have been total collapse of the economy. He didn't do any of that on a whim. It was necessary action following the collapse of the sub-prime market in the USA, which reverberated world wide. That was nothing to do with Labour. The Tories would have done the same.
Brown - pah! The 2008 crash as it affected this country was due to lax regulation of the banking sector throughout Labours time in office & probably earlier. Brown "solved" it by throwing shedloads of our money at the banks to bail them out. Worst chancellor/worst PM ever.
The result of the 2010 General election which Brown contested, was a hung parliament. After 13 years of Labour rule, the Conservatives were 20 sears short of winning outright. He wasn’t as popular as Blair, but he wasn’t as unpopular as Major who led the Tories to a huge defeat in 1997.
then they got Blair, gawd help us.
who sold the gold reserves for a song, GB... humph...
Ellipsis, Kinnochio was having a "victory" rally for a General Election, not quite the same thing. Amusing though! I bet John Major Pished himself!
diddly: "It's quite absurd that a few thousand members of the blue-rinse brigade can decide who is to be PM for the whole country. " - wonderful isn't it! PMSL!
Truss or Sunak ,will be the last Tory Pm for a decade at least.
10cs 08:08, Yes I agree with much of that, credit where it's due Brown did save the financials of the world.
Ah good old Gully, still in cloud cuckoo land! PMSL! Real Labour cannot win in 2024 and that would be half a century since their last win in 1974. The bet is still available for anyone with the bottle to back their own view.
Not to mention selling off the gold reserves for a mess of potage. Someone other than us got very rich from that deal.
Yeah he sold off the gold for a handful of magic beans and people remember that. But his solution to the financial collapse was spot on, copied by most of the world. So as much as I am not a fan of any shade of "Labour" - credit where it's due.

Agreed, but seeing Truss walking out and waving at the hustings last night, on the news, gave me the same "Ugh" feeling as the Kinnock Moment. Then hearing all the impossible promises coming out of her mouth, put a bit of sick into mine ...
09.08 Right on cue TTT .

Ellipsis 09:15, most the votes are in though. Kinnochio made the mistake of taking the public for granted before they'd voted. Bad move.
