/Angela Rayner voices concerns over Liz Truss's chief of staff
Labour has written to the cabinet secretary over what the party describes as "hugely concerning" allegations against Liz Truss's chief of staff.
Angela Rayner, the deputy leader of the opposition, wants Simon Case to investigate allegations first reported in The Sunday Times about Mark Fullbrook.
The PM's official spokesman yesterday said Mr Fulbrook had Liz Truss's "full support."
Mr Fullbrook has not travelled to New York for the UN General Assembly with the prime minister, but Number 10 insisted he was working on government business, including help for businesses with energy costs and Friday's mini budget.
Ms Rayner wrote that it was "hugely concerning to see reports over the weekend that the new Downing Street chief of staff has been interviewed by the FBI over links to an alleged plot to influence a US election. These are incredibly alarming revelations which the public will rightly want clarity on."
The FBI probe relates to allegations that financier and Tory donor Julio Herrera Velutini promised to help the former governor of Puerto Rico get re-elected if she dismissed an official investigating a bank he owned there.
He has denied the charges against him.
Mr Velutini is alleged to have paid CT Group, a political consultancy firm in which Mr Fullbrook was a senior figure, for work intended to help the former governor's ultimately unsuccessful re-election campaign in 2020.
Ms Rayner said: "Those who held out the slightest hope that Liz Truss would turn the page on years of Tory sleaze, can already see just weeks into office that she's already delivering more of the same. She urgently needs to come clean on what she knew and when.
"The new prime minister is covering up what she knew about this troubling case. Her judgement is now in the spotlight as the man she appointed to her side less than a fortnight ago is reportedly embroiled in a troubling foreign bribery probe involving the FBI."/
Is this going to be Pincher Mk 2?Certainly doesn’t bode well for the Truss/Biden talks later, does it?

Truss is the continuity PM. Same sleaze and dodgy dealing as under her predecessor.

//Anything which draws criticism from Gob-on-a-Stick has got to be a good thing, Fatticus? The Labour Party have nothing to offer constructively so this is the sort of playground drama that is right up Angie's street.//
Rayner(or GOAS as you and strangely only a couple of others refer to her as) is pretty small fry in this story.
When the FBI get involved it tends to add a touch of gravitas to matters. One of your other heroes is presently finding that out, isn’t he?
But I’m sure if the tables were turned someone like Johnathan Gillis would be all over this like a seagull on a bag of chips, wouldn’t he?

It's hilarious- Labour literally have nothing to offer, so some old chestnut about the FBI talking to Mark Fullbrook just smacks of desperation. It's stuff like this which turns the public right off. If you don't like the government, offer some positive, constructive alternative. Until then, wrap up.

Instead of getting behind the new PM, or at least giving her a chance to run the country, all we hear is the same old gramophone of doom- unless you're going to offer an alternative or solutions to what you see as problems, nothing is likely to change. It certainly will be water off a duck's back to Truss.

Not even her own hold out much hope for the Remainer and anti-monarchist flip-flopper of some renown, do they?

Btw, you asked for something constructive.
Over two thirds of Britons wanted the windfall tax to be imposed when she took office.
What did the former Shell employee and recipient of £100,000 from the wife of a former BP boss do?
Decided to pile it onto the taxpayer instead.
Great move in austere times with a dreadful winter in the offing, eh?

One Labour MP summed it up. Truss lost her Party the next GE in one fell swoop.

Further revelations today from Sky News.
Rayner says 'bombshell' revelation about PM's chief of staff 'raises serious questions'
We've been reporting today on the revelation that Prime Minister Liz Truss's chief of staff is being paid for his Downing Street role through his lobbying company.
Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner has given her reaction to the news, saying: "The shocking revelation that the prime minister's chief of staff is on loan from a lobbying company, not actually employed by the government, raises serious questions about the new prime minister's judgement.
"The fact that this bombshell comes days after alarming reports that Mr Fullbrook is also embroiled in a foreign bribery probe involving the FBI will only add to public concern.
"While Liz Truss shows all the signs of allowing another wave of Tory sleaze to fester, a Labour government would create an Independent Ethics and Integrity Commission to clean up public life and restore the basic standards we expect."
