It’s anything to deflect away from the character of Johnson.
Only the deluded fail to acknowledge his egregious reputation has always been in tatters.

Paigntonian - I avoided the speech as I was scared of another "IT'S A DISGRACE" moment. However in her defence, I understand from what I've read that her speech was all about ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶s̶m̶ anticipating future opportunities, so it makes sense for her to concentrate on what lies ahead as opposed to what's happened before.

Also, she praised Johnson in her victory speech last month.

Regarding her brightness...

I'm going on comments made about her from colleagues (on the Emily Maitlis / John Sopel podcast, The News Agents). Apparently she IS bright, fun and engaging but 'ideologically slippery'.

What some may see as idiocy is simply awkwardness. If the markets and public finances eventually respond to the mini (not really 'mini') budget positively, she won't be perceived as idiot but as a genius.

I remember Thatcher wasn't a hit with the party when she became leader. This smells vaguely similar.

Frankly weird that some decide that Truss is 'not intelligent'. Is Starmer 'not intelligent' or was Corbyn 'not intelligent'. It really is schoolboy stuff.

everyone has some sort of intelligence, I suppose. But I referred somewhere earlier to her sheer lack of political nous in thinking that a great way to begin a new government was to shower the rich with party favours at a time of widespread economic crisis. How can you make your way to No 10 with that kind of tin ear?

I never think intelligence should be gauged by qualifications. Some of the most qualified people are the dopiest - and some of the least qualified the smartest. Brains don’t necessarily
equate to sense.

Naomi: A good point. But to call a successful City accountant, MP and Party leader 'thick' is just stupid. She may turn out to be an inept leader and PM and we shall see. But really this purile posturing - their lot are evil our lot are saints - wouldn't win a biscuit in a Forth Form debate.
