I don't understand why it has not been announced officially - trying to organise an event for next year and don't want to clash with the coronation - people need to know well in advance to book venues and accommodation etc. Also confirmation whether it will be a Bank Holiday or not.

Also we don't want a slimmed down coronation. We want the full works with all the pomp and ceremony that goes with it broadcast to the world. Be worth every penny.
It is going to be slimmed down, Dave. The golden coach and the marching soldiers will be wheeled out but the ceremony has been reduced from almost four hours to about one hour.
Ken has the right date, not sure about the place
26 May 1896 Nicholas II was crowned by metropolitan Sergius in a 6 h ceremony. The tsaritsa was observed to be in religious ecstasy during part of this.

cerf filmed part ! pretty damn remarkable
some of it here (I hope)

Same date as his grandson, Archie's, 4th birthday I believe.
Told ya :-))
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth cost £1.57 million, equivalent to roughly £45 million today. Not a lot of money when you consider this is approximately one tenth of the cost of one Airbus a380 aircraft.
an A380 can be used for years and gradually make its money back. A coronation I'm not so sure about - especially if the royal family try to stop it ever being screened again, as I recall was suggested with the queen's funeral.
Maggie ///Same date as his grandson, Archie's, 4th birthday I believe.///
Oh no, I hope not. There will be tears and tantrums if Grandpa won't be there for Archies party.
If you think the coronation will not add to the country's GDP considerably, take a look at this:

This is the booking system for Premier Inn establishments in central London for the night before the ceremony (other providers are available). Scroll past the first two and see what you get.

Whether or not all these hotels really are sold out or whether Premier Inn is currently deciding what prices they can charge (which is probably more likely) I don't know. But there is no doubt that the coronation will provide a huge boost to London's economy (and hence the tax revenue generated).
£45million, using Vulcan's figures at 01:05; there's about 60 million people live in the UK, so 75p each. I'm happy to pay my share for the spectacle it will be.
//especially if the royal family try to stop it ever being screened again, as I recall was suggested with the queen's funeral. //

I've not heard that, Who suggested it?
I read that on t'interweb last week naomi. "The Palace" only want broadcasters to retain just 1 hour of the total coverage, and that will have to have approval from the palace.
bhg, thanks. Unless I'm reading that wrong it doesn't sound like the royal family trying to stop it ever being screened again to me.
^Same to clarion.
If true, I think it's pointless because there will be lots of the coverage available on the net.
Load of nonsense. Can you imagine the fallout with the public footing the bill and being excluded from proceedings? Not on your nelly!
