How long have those people been waiting for surgery? How many may well now die without it? I hope they are proud of themselves. Unions are an enemy of the state.

I disagree that Unions are the enemy of the state - without the unions history would be very different.
As for the cancelled operations can you provide figures of cancellations before strikes and before Covid just so we can get a full picture?
Thank you
as I pointed out in another thread, 40,000 nurses just left the NHS last year. The real enemies of state are the people not willing to pay enough to get the NHS functioning.

RH: "I disagree that Unions are the enemy of the state - without the unions history would be very different. " - they served a purpose a century ago. Now they have their own political agenda. They use the backs of their members to gain political advantage. They are the enemy of the workers they claim to support. Thousands are losing millions in wages to get nowwhere, I bet the Union leaders are still drawing their giant salaries. RH your name suggests you have been ideologically seduced by these charlatans. Try some lateral thinking.
The nhs waiting list has been steadily getting worse for years. The blamed covid, and now they want to blame the Unions.
But the current wait has nowt to do with the odd strike, and is more to do with years of diminishing money and political mismanagement.
I think unions were very necessary, but times change. Its gone too far.
You know you really should not jump to conclusions Tora about peoples user names, you just end up looking foolish!
Unions or nest feathering multi millionaire politicians.

Which is worse?

Hmmmm.

TTT I think you’ll find Redhelen has red hair.
But I'm not rude to people who disagree with me!
According to the report the figures relate to the strike day. Nothing to do with Covid … just strikes.
The waiting lists have been increasing and operations been cancelled since before these disputes .

COVID made it worse
Bazile, this is not about Covid. It’s not even about money. It’s about politics.
I didn't say it was about COVID

And I disagree it's about politics
Bazile, you said Covid made it worse. This is nothing to do with Covid.
I was responding to another comment
Naomi I mentioned covid first!
I have not had a response from the OP apart from an insult perhaps that’s because he is unable to debate properly.
JNO, the government chucks money at the NHS. It is not underfunded but it is poorly managed. This isn’t about that either.
RH, I know you mentioned Covid first.
I don't think that unions are needed in the same way that they were in the past. I've walked through a picket line on more than one occasion.

That said, these people have no other way of expressing their desire for changes in the conditions of their employment and their pay.

I don't suppose that they have taken the decision to strike lightly. They have no other options.

If we were all to pay more into the running of the country, tax increases, then we will be able to pay for the services that we need. Better health service ( although money is only a small part of the problem) and more police officers would be a start.
