Plenty of slaughtermen - no different.
there is never certainty. All those people wrongly executed were there because other people were "certain".
What about cases like the killer of the soldier Lee Rigby in London? Can't be more certain than that. Firing squad from his regiment would be happy to do it I am sure.

Aircooledfool,
Do you remember the Pitchfork case some years ago?
Two young girls had been murdered and the police arrested a suspect. After long interrogation he confessed and, curiously, there were details in his confession 'that could only have been known to the killer', and, of course, the police.
DNA evidence, used for the first time, showed that he was innocent.
Eventually the real killer was caught and convicted.
So, there are times when a police officer is convinced that the suspect is guilty and twists the evidence to convince the court.
Who would want some executed on the word of a bent copper?
they’ll just hire immigrants lol
even poor old Dr Crippen would have been cleared today.

In order to have laws in place to enable the killers of Lee Rugby to be hanged there would a real risk of innocents suffering the same fate.
I would argue there is certainty, not as Jno says “never” yes sometimes there is doubt and some other remedy would apply. I fear that recidivists will be incarcerated , and then let loose to do it again, plenty of evidence there, I think . I am simply saying that in cases where there is no doubt E.g. rigby et al, then it should be applied
//Fortunately, we are a civilised society, so the question is not likely to arise.//

Unfortunately, we are anything but civilised, so the question will always arise. Even worse, and and shows we are no better.... we will literally lock a person underground alone forever in a glass cage- rather than the euthanasia they request.

I personally wouldn't go with hanging, but lethal injection probably... although I am always a little baffled, that we can't do it quickly and painlessly, because pharmacies only want their drugs used for animals and why they have that much power.
Ah, if you are saying that our justice system is so terrible, that we can't trust it.... we probably shouldn't be locking people up forever either, even to release them after 30 years, as if that's better.
I don't think the "penalty" should depend on how sure we are of guilt- that seems insane.
A bullet to the brain seldom receives any complaints.
“ I don't think the "penalty" should depend on how sure we are of guilt- that seems insane.”

Exactly what is insane about applying a penalty based on being certain about guilt
Because someone is either found "guilty" or not. There are no in betweens.
It is incredibly hard to convict anyone anyway, as it has to be "beyond reasonable doubt". It isn't 50/50 likelihood- but has to be totally proven with evidence. By that alone- there are far, far more people being wrongly acquitted, than wrongly sentenced.
But, if you are not sure enough- why would you imprison them even?
PIXIE, "It isn't 50/50 likelihood- but has to be totally proven with evidence. By that alone- there are far, far more people being wrongly acquitted, than wrongly sentenced."

What percentage of accused folk are wrongly acquitted and what percentage are wrongly convicted?
Try Google TCL? If the onus is always on an accuser to "prove" - and innocent, until proved guilty - with doubt meaning they are acquitted...
Common sense may also work.
why does it have to be hangmen or women....in Texas it's usually 6 automated syringes, one with the lethal juice and I believe with 6 witnesses present....may be wrong on the numbers.
PIXIE, is it not up to the person making the claim to substantiate it?
I haven't made a claim, TCL, just given the facts, which you already know. If you want numbers- find some!
"...why does it have to be hangmen or women..."

Availability, cost, reliability, adaptability in a crisis, work ethic, probably a few more.

It's a pointless argument, it's not going to happen.
Just because our leaders are happy to deal with countries who execute criminals doesn't mean they have the 'nads to reintroduce it here.
They have higher moral standards which prevent it being reintroduced here. They would no more reintroduce that than they would say, slavery.
