His Majesty King Charles III, taking after his mother, recognising the UK as an integral part of Europe, much to the annoyance of the Blinkered Brexiteers.
Where have you heard Blinkered Brexiteers argue that the UK is not an integral part of Europe? Of course it is. But fortunately it is no longer an integral part of the European Union.
The King had no reason to meet Ms von der Leyen. She is not a Head of State and not the political leader of a nation. I imagine she just wanted to ask his permission to use "Windsor" for the title of their latest missive.
I don't think this was the King doing anything of the sort. I think he just met a world leader, as is only right. It's high time we adopted a grown-up attitude to our European neighbours.
Boris Johnson's schoolboy humour was amusing, but it's no way to foster good international relations.
I beleive in the union of N Ireland and GB, btw, which is one reason I was baffled at Unionists' apparent attempts to endanger that by supporting Brexit.
Surely the agreement is called the Windsor Agreement because it was signed at Windsor, just like the Maastrict and Schengen agreements wee named after the place they were signed and not because it was the king's surname. I think getting a meeting of Ms von der Leyenwith the king was a subtle move on the part of Sunak; a bribe, if you like. In any case, part of the job of the monarch is to promote friendship and trade between the UK and the rest of the world.
The significance of the word “Windsor” won’t be lost on Mr Donaldson and co I hope.
Mind you I was once in a pub in Crossmaglen, where I was a bit surprised to see a picture of Windsor Castle on the wall!
What was more interesting was the body language both Ursula and Rishi looked comfortable and it looked like it was more a meeting of people who were equals. A long way from the days when Theresa May was obviously isolated.
Was the King was right to meet her, on balance probably, for those outside the UK there is still some kudos in meeting the monarch, and he may have been keen to demonstrate we still want to be open and friendly to our neighbours. She would still need to bow or courtesy though. Subtle point made regarding the meaning of sovereignty perhaps.
For a while there has been this silly insistence that the head of the EU is somehow not a world leader.
I think the meeting yesterday was an attempt to undo that
The Royal family rarely do anything without considering the optics. A few recent exceptions of course. Charles would know exactly what message would be sent.
Firstly confusing the EU with Europe and than assuming that KC met the woman because he wants back in the EU. If anyone is blinkered it is you mate.
It is high time politicians on both sides put their differences aside and started working together against real common enemies. I see no problem with KC meeting the President of a very large Union of people (apart from it incites the response as seen from the likes of Canary) it should be done and I for one am glad it happened.
Think this is about the only good thing Charlie has ever done.
Keep friends with the EU .To make is easier for when the UK has to rejoin.
......which is inevitable....
