Sue Gray was last night facing fresh questions about alleged bias as pictures of her son, Liam Conlon, standing alongside Sir Keir Starmer emerged – including one taken during her Partygate probe.

The pictures reignited the ‘impartiality’ row engulfing the former top civil servant after she quit her Whitehall role last week to become Sir Keir’s chief of staff.

Liam Conlon is chair of the Labour Party Irish Society, and has recently campaigned for Labour candidate Danny Beales in Boris Johnson’s Uxbridge seat in west London.

Meanwhile, Sue Gray, reportedly a friend of Keir Starmer since his time as Director of Public Prosecutions, still hasn't said when conversations with Starmer regarding her new appointment began, a question Starmer has also avoided answering.

RH, the point is she worked in a different area of the Civil Service - one that you are not familiar with. No one is undermining your personal
experience - simply saying that your experience doesn’t make you an expert on the way the whole of the Civil Service works.

It's a simple assumption to see a connection, but thar does not mean that the connection is actually there.

It may be, but it cannot automatically be taken for granted, simply because one, other, or both, have a high profile.

Gray obviously has some kind of connection with Labour herself (though naomi has for reasons best known to herself chosen to focus this thread on gray’s son)

civil servants often do have political views… it’s hard to imagine why anyone with no interest in politics or government would want to do their work… the issue is whether or not they break their oath to keep their politics out of their job which is a very very serious offense….

zero evidence whatsoever has been presented that sue gray actually did this… zero. nobody has indicated how this actually invalidates any specific evidence in her report… because it doesn’t. She appears to have carried it out ethically and thoroughly!

Untitled, it’s not just about the doubt it casts upon her neutrality with regard to the report she produced. She is a very senior civil servant who has for years been privy to classified information relating to British government. She is now going to work in a most senior role for a specific political party where her allegiance will be paramount.

that is fair enough… he makes a good case for turning the offer down and that starmer should not have made it… can’t argue with it really.

Quite understandably Ms(50 shades of)Gray knew nothing of these events and never talks with her son about such things. Where "exactly" do you think that the Labour "Irish Society" stands on such things as EeYoo policy and NI protocol. Wasn't agent Cob rather enamoured with the IRA when he was knocking about? Is there an English Society faction in the Labour party or is the official line anti English in all matters? You may have to decide for yourselves. Mind how you go though. Or you may come under "scrutiny".

........ and the Daily Express which is where Togo's link takes you, and which, other than in the emotive headline, suggests that Miss Rayner gave as good as she got, and did not seem particularly rattled.

Togo, given that we have secret ballots, there is no real reason I should say who I vote for, but just for your benefit, I have over the years, depending on the election and local circumstances, I can honestly say that I have voted Labour, Lib Dem, Tory, and Greens. However my allegiance overall is marginally left of centre. Fine Gael or any other Irish party has never been an option.
