//I quite enjoyed Edna but hated Les Patterson.//

I loved Sir Les, the Cultural Attaché to the court of St. James's and the USA (and Minister for Inland Drainage and Rodent Control - among many other government and diplomatic positions). Priceless !!!
I have to admit, NJ, that I agree with 100%. Sir Les was brilliant, mainly because he reminded me of me. And not many men can claim that honour.
As well as his TV personas he also helped create and produce the comic strip Barry McKenzie in Private Eye in 1964. We didn't half laugh at the subversive content as teenagers. The Australian Government banned it when the comic strip was published in book form. Still use "pointing Percy at the porcelain", as a euphemism but not "punishing Percy in the palm". One of the likeable Aussies. R.I.P. Barry Humphries.
I should have said I agree with you 100%.
"Technicolor yawn" for chunder.
