Cruel mother and her 'sadistic' career criminal boyfriend who starved the nine-year-old, forced him to stand outside for hours and held little boy down in cold baths are jailed for 27 and 32 years.

Should hang.

Poor lad ...

And another one: 12 years for stabbing with a knife and bragging after. Pathetic justice system.

We should follow the American justice system. From what I have observed sentencing is much more appropriate for violent crimes.
The impression from the British justice system is babies/ children are not really important .
Shame on us .
I Think the Saddam shuffle is the right answer here. I just cannot comprehend such cruelty. I can only hope their time inside is a living hell.
Truly heartbreaking. RIP Alfie.

What really angers me is that such wholly repugnant and totally unwarranted murders of innocent children will continue. It is a dreadful thought.

Where is the deterrent?

It seems to me that the news is suddenly full of this sort of awful crime, but has it always been like this and we've just never heard about it until recently?
Another perverse decision and let down again of our so called justice system. Where do they dig these morons up on the Parole Boards .

Awe the poor little mite, monsters do live amongst us but shouldn't be someone you trust.

//but has it always been like this and we've just never heard about it until recently?//

Sadly yes although in the 'old days' people were stopped from doing it again, either by swinging or locked up for life.

It is ludicrous we can even contemplate such evil being allowed to roam free on our streets ever again. But that is what is likely to happen here as they are not old.

If the liberals cant take capital punishment then whole life with no parole has to be done.

//Where is the deterrent?//

In these cases I dont think anything would be a deterrent. I want rid of them so there is no risk of them doing it again. Take a life in this manor forfeit your own.
These 2 sentences are announced on the same day that we learn Colin Pitchfork is safe to be freed. Really? A convicted rapist and murderer of 2 girls? I cannot agree with your post, JimF but even if I did I ask again - where is the deterrent?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-65479515
"The panel noted that Mr Pitchfork has been in prison for a very long time. His behaviour for almost all of that time has not caused any concern... and the evidence before the panel demonstrated that he had learnt the lessons that he had been taught and had worked out how to apply them in practice."
"I cannot agree with your post, JimF"

What do you not agree with?
Sorry to repeat your link, retrocop, I had not seen it as my blood boiled and I made adjustments to my post.
Take the life of a child, serve the whole of the rest of yours in prison. Pointless saying they should be hanged, we will never have the death penalty back as an option.
JimF, all of it. "suddenly" and "but has it always been like this and we've just never heard about it until recently?".
Why did you end your post with a question mark when starting with "It seems to me..."?

Think what you like but if you post it you can expect disagreement.
Missed the comma?
does "minimum term of 32 years" mean what it says? If so that will probably do: 2055 is a long way off.
@16.02.I remember this case, choux.Wasnt it the first time DNA was used to get a murderous bastrad behind bars? And he tried to incriminate his friends and relations to avoid justice.Justice for the wee girls he raped and murdered, none at all.Must be laughing his blals off.
// I remember this case, choux.Wasnt it the first time DNA was used to get a murderous bastrad behind bars? And he tried to incriminate his friends and relations to avoid justice. //

when Leicestershire Police announced the mass testing of males in the area, he persuaded a work colleague to take the test on his behalf, so as to avoid (as he put it) scrutiny by the police in view of previous convictions. that colleague drunkenly disclosed that to friends, and one of them reported the matter.

DNA fingerprinting first came to attention in this case; it definitely ruled out the police's no1 suspect, and although it provided proof positive of Pitchfork's guilt, it wasn't necessary for that evidence to be used in his conviction, as he pleaded guilty.

No problems at all. :-)
If he does get out and rape and murder again, the parole board will come out with the usual line-"lessons have been learned from this case, sorry we let him out,but we are safe in our gaurded estates, you little people will just have to live with it".Bastrads.
