Unless you regard the vikings as immigrants - I'm not descended from any, nor are most people I know. In fact I'm struggling to think of more than a few. I'm assuming that you're not talking about recent legal and welcomed immigrants such as the Polish airmen who settled and married after WW2. So it has to be a false statement that 'most of us are descended from immigrants', unless you are going back a very long time in years.
A gradual increase of people who assimilated into the society prevailing at the time and since is completely different from the current situation.

As i have stated previously all the illegal immigrants presently staying in all the four-star hotels up here in Aberdeen say that they would prefer to be working rather than sponging off the state.At present they are taking £10 a day off the state when they could be working and paying £100 a week into the state in taxes.It isnt rocket science,isnt it?But the UK government dont allow them to work.My company are screaming out for unskilled,but willing to work workers but cant find any up here in Aberdeen...these people want to work yet are not allowed to.I give up.

Not often I agree with you ynnafymmi, but in this instance I do. In Dundee and surrounding areas we had fruit rotting on the bushes for lack of labour. Afraid the locals are just not interested as they see it as "beneath them". I know who the scroungers are and it's not the immigrants.

Allowing them to work doesn’t fix the immigration crisis though because more and more are coming, so what are you going to do when all the jobs are filled and still people come in their thousands? Where’s the infrastructure for it all, the housing, the schools, the health services?

Thats the answer then. Send all these illegal immigrants to Scotland.Wee Burney always said she would welcome them but that appears to be empty words.If Scotland has so many local scroungers who are reluctant to work then you can house them, pay them, and look after their welfare. The Scots have the space but can they afford to accommodate them all? Their NHS is worse than England.

Don't know where you get your info from Retro but I'd rather trust the NHS in Scotland than in England. At least I can see a doctor within a couple of days - apparently not so down south. Not perfect of course but then what is these days.

Why don't the government quickly process them by taking their fingerprints, DNA, photograph and do an Interpol check. Ask the them if they wish to work in the UK. If yes. Pack them off to all these fruit and veg farms where the produce is rotting on the trees/grounds through lack of pickers. The farmers can pay them and and accommodate them in barrack-like structures ( Remember Auf Wiedersen Pet). They work for five years and then are deemed suitable to join a work force of their choice and integrate into the UK society providing they don't commit any crimes. Any who decide they don't want to comply to these conditions or walk out and try to disappear will be immediately deported upon capture.

For thousands of years people have moved from country to country because of war, persecution or famine. This will continue.
What we are seeing now is nothing compared to what we see in the future as millions of people throughout the world will be on the move to escape the devastating effects of climate change

We have both a skills shortage and an unskilled workforce shortage.
And we have thousands of people who can plug that gap, but aren’t allowed to.
We have hundreds of employers crying out for this workforce who are cannot employ them, and their produce literally rots before it can get to the marketplace.
Instead of regarding them as a problem and an embarrassment, we should regard them as a solution and a help to our country.
Instead of making a dangerous boat trip as the only way get here, we should coordinate the hundreds of employers and the thousands of these employees, and make safe and legal means to get here and do essential jobs.
But the Tories are obsessed with cutting immigrants even though they are manifestly hopeless at doing so.

If they were so skilled they would actively be looking for skilled work and they would come here legally. The majority that wash up on our shores are looking for a free ride in life.
