..............myth continues with the visit of President Biden. There is, and never was, any "Special Relationship". It only exists in the minds of deluded people who think the UK is still a world power.
The myth started when Germany declared war on the USA following the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. This meant that the USA and the UK were now allies and as such, would make the joint effort against Germany and Japan (not forgetting Italy). It also meant the sharing of intelligence. Churchill was reluctant to let anyone know about Ultra and Bletchly Park, including the Americans. In the end, he was persuaded to let them in on it. That was the start of the, so-called, Special Relationship. There was no other reason for this "relationship", other than to defeat the Axis Forces. The only "relationship" the UK has to the USA is that they are both members of NATO.
There was never any kindred spirit towards the UK from the USA. In fact, in 1934, in the midst of world economic turmoil and depression, the USA formulated a plan that might involve a war between them and the British Empire. It was called War Plan Red and would have commenced with the invasion of Canada and British held territories in the Carribean.

The UK just happens to be in a good strategic location for the US to have bases close to Russia, like a giant albeit stationary aircraft-carrier if you will.
Singling out war plan red is a bit of a red herring as the US had 5 colour coded was plans with sub divisions, (rainbow plans) envisaging war scenarios with several other countries / combinations of countries.

They lent us £3.7b in WW1 and £4.4b in 1945. OK, they were business deals but the US must have made a calculated decision that we were worth saving.

erm no -ish - it started BRUSA ( I will let Abers work out the words) - and there was even a cable in the Atlantic PURELY for code traffic. German code messages were RE-CODED and sent across for solution by the banks of bombes the American had constructed - and then sent back

NATO was set up so America cd occupy Europe by treaty and any war would start in Europe and not in American or Canada. Europeans all said 'yeah OK sounds like a good deal'
and that was the status quo for 50y until Trump said he was strengthening NATO by pulling out ( in his Polisj speech). Makes no sense, well it was trump.
Bliar believing Bush and co-invading Iraq was very very popular there. Much more popular than here.
Boris' support of Ukraine ( well he is Armenian which is near) was thanked. The EU cdnt agree.
