We have been in touch with

who are responsible for the flags on the Cenotaph. They have confirmed that every year as part of preparations for Armistice Weekend they are removed and cleaned. They will be returned shortly.

If those flags are missing on one of our sacred days of the year because of the Met Police Commissioner's cowardice then he will find a few pieces of tin with ribbons attached and certificates of Exemplary Service on his office door step next week. I am ashamed as well as my colleagues with whom I served. My dear old dad would approve as he turns in his grave.
'Those that we pay to protect us are now motivated by cowardice'.
er not sure what retro will say to that
There WAS a phase where the police demanded a safe place to work - environmental legislation (*) - so it was OK to run away if someon shouts, shoots, waves their arms at them (+)
But they are sort of over that
(*) NHS admin ( er not police I admit) were Very Slow to admit that the staff had to given a safe place to work inc from violent patients. - took years. One of my collaeagues was mugged in a hospital carpark by a heroin addict and the first reaction of the admin was : so what?
(+) - see wiki Hungerford, also passim ( oops a bitta Latin there) Arena and 7 Jul 05 reluctance to go into the tunnels
who can tell what the Met 'thinks'
I speculate that they were thought to have been taken down to prevent desecration.
( altho descration of christian and jewish graves isnt really an islamic thing)
The Met does have camels ( arab world advisers) - god know what they are telling him. " doing a good job, sir. where is my pay cheque commissioner"
If those flags are missing on one of our sacred days of the year
chrissakes, bits and bobs are NOT part of the Anglican doctrine, and ROmans would deffo carry on regardless.
bad case of displacement here ( small action or lack of action is imbued with much greater significance than the action deserves)
sozza about the last bit. unmimsy - and psycholigical
