Why lumber the armed forces with them. Because they would knock them into shape in no time at all. Get the riff raff of the street and knock some sense into them before it gets even worse

The world is the same regarding work. You start at the bottom, then its down to you how far you go.

OK who has hijacked Nicebloke? Never heard so much common sense!

indeed the market has been flooded with degrees that do not provide adequate education... that is not the fault of people who pursue those qualifications it is the fault of educators and by extension government policy. universities have for the most part given up on education and are obsessed instead with making money... two goals that are inherently contradictory. you cannot educate a customer.

likewise cost of living is so high that "odd jobs" or entry level positions simply do not cover exorbitant rents and high food prices... especially when you consider where most jobs are located (ie in high demand cities). average property prices in the 60s were something like 2-3 times average earnings... you could buy a cheap one if you scrimped and saved enough... nowadays the equivalent figure is 8-9 times average earnings while cost of living is extremely high. it simply is not the same environment.

"The world is the same regarding work. You start at the bottom, then its down to you how far you go."

the viability of a "bottom" stage position has changed.

untitled: //"I could go out this Monday week and I can asure you by Friday I would have found some sort of work"

but you're not going to are you? so it's pointless to say so. // - no it's not pointless just because he does not need to, it's demonstrating an attitude. He's saying he could and so could I and probably even you could that's the point.

amazed at all these oldies insisting that they still understand the world and that nothing has changed...

it simply isn't the case anymore toratoratora. the world is not like that in the modern day.

untitled: "likewise cost of living is so high that "odd jobs" or entry level positions simply do not cover exorbitant rents and high food prices... especially when you consider where most jobs are located (ie in high demand cities). " - no one is saying they'll get no state help just that they'll not get state help without getting off their April.

13:05 Rubbish, of course the world is like that. I could still go out and get a job by Friday. Ok it won't be much of a job but it'll be something.

it's tinkering at the edges unless you address the root cause... poor quality education, extremely high cost of living and extremely high property prices. this is what happens when you let profiteering take over everything - nobody can afford to live and that doesn't encourage aspiration it encourages despair. remedy those things and this problem will disappear.

" I could still go out and get a job by Friday."

go on then.

oh and you're not allowed to use your qualifications or existing experience... start from nothing and see where it gets you

I don't need to but I could.

well i guess we'll never find out will we so it's pointless

"it's tinkering at the edges unless you address the root cause... poor quality education, extremely high cost of living and extremely high property prices." - ok so we give them everything buck shee indefinately? I agree with education that's right up the pictures.

untitled: "start from nothing and see where it gets you" - I did start from nothing. Did you see my post at 12:37. I did not come from privilege. Everyone has at least the same opportunities as me, in fact when I started there were a lot less avenues for betterment. No internet etc for a start. These days people make a living in vast myriad of ways on the internet alone.

Aldi and the likes of are always looking for workers, and there are many cheapy shops always looking. You may not like that sort of work but its a start, any star is better than no start at all. Try working in some heavy sweaty factory for a few months and you would be more than happy to work in a supermarket or wash up in a pub. Its all about putting food inside you and paying your way, not sucking on other people.

"No internet etc for a start. These days people make a living in vast myriad of ways on the internet alone."

onlyfans it is then. nothing wrong with that of course but it's hardly an option for everyone is it.

i am pleased for you. but this was decades ago. i do not think you understand what the differences are between now and then.

Believe me I do and what has changed is the candidates not the opportunities. We get grads though the door for jobs who have a degree in something yet no actual knowledge of the subject. It was hard to initially get through the door on my first IT job I get it and that is no different today but you have to keep trying and eventually you'll get a chance.

//Aldi and the likes of are always looking for workers,//

Yes but Aldi expects it's staff to work a darn sight harder than most of the other supermarkets - which many aren't prepared to do. No one at Aldi sits idle - if they aren't needed at the tills (where they deal with customers 3 times faster than Morrisons) they immediately go to other jobs around the store.
