According to the Daily Express, if the ECHR intercedes in his plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda (the UK breaking international law), we will join Russia and Belarus as countries whose citizens do not enjoy protections given to citizens under the ECHR.

 

It’s not just Johnny Foreigner (who is in the UK) who will lose these rights, but every UK citizen.

Never let it be said that the Tories want the plebs to have rights.

The ECHR was created with good intentions but over the years it has been perverted by money grubbing lawyers and criminal scum. Actual human rights are now secondary to the supposed "rights" of criminals. We should replace it with our own based on common sense.

should never have signed up to it, we already had sensible laws. the echr is just a money spinner for law firms cherie blair did well out of it, all the refugee treaties need re-writing for the 21 century, britians awash with foreign criminals ie rapists murderers drug dealers jihadi's who we are stuck with.

it's been their plan all along. they want to recreate the brexit coalition of voters who gave them a large majority in 2019... only this time they want to do it with the ECHR rather than the EU

Naomi, thanks for your reply to my question. I think the Bill of Rights Bill hasn't gone through or whatever it's called. But there does seem to be an earlier extant act.

"The Bill of Rights Bill was a piece of proposed legislation in the UK that aimed to reform the law relating to human rights. It was introduced to Parliament on 22 June 2022 but was withdrawn on 27 June 20231 (sic). The bill sought to replace the Human Rights Act 1998 and make significant changes to how Convention rights are applied, interpreted, and enforced in the UK"

Sunak has decided that Rwanda is the hill he will die on, showing massive misjudgement.

Anyone politician with any sense would have abandoned it and blamed it on someone else when he had the chance, which he did.

I don't think we will be leaving the echr. If we do, we'll be rejoining it next year.
